I need to do this course to take the next step in my career, but there are so many providers who offer this course online, that I don’t know which is a good one. I don’t mind classroom teaching either (I’m in Sussex). Can anyone recommend a course?

Must it be prince ? Agile methodology is more in demand these days

StarcourtMall · 07/11/2021 07:10

Yeah, it’s a pre-requisite for the internal promotion I want, plus it will really help with a project I’m working on at the moment.

Agree Agile is more in demand these days.

I did do a 5 day PRINCE 2 residential..
I think it was run by QA training and another by IKon

Jk987 · 07/11/2021 07:18

Hope work are paying if it's for an internal promotion? They should have a preferred supplier for courses too?
I did a classroom based course pre-Covid with QA. You have to devote the whole week to studying and revision so try and put everything else aside. I used to come home, have dinner and do study in the evening. It's worth it, good luck!

Axelos are the official body behind PRINCE2. I suggest going on to their website and searching for their accredited providers in your area. Is it just foundation you need or practitioner? If both it's worth doing a combined course because it's cheaper. Generally the syllabus is tightly controlled because they have to get you through the exam, so the difference between content from accredited providers is small. Be aware though there can be quite a lot of pre work. For practitioner I was asked for 20 hours pre study. If providers are cheaper and their courses shorter, they may be intending to load you up with pre-reading, and you will need to do it.

StarcourtMall · 07/11/2021 07:35

No, they aren’t paying unfortunately! It’s a recent change to the requirements for the role and all internal training is up in the air post-Covid so I’m not sure if it’ll change in the future, but I’m happy to pay rather than wait and see. QA looks good!

I did PRINCE via a local university who were an an accredited trainer. I personally would push for clasroom attendance as I find the support better than online provision.

That being said Im about to do a course with QA who delivering remotely via Teams/Webex so will see how this goes.

I did AgilePM via online distance learning and I found it tough as there was no immediate online support for queries

Handsnotwands · 07/11/2021 08:23

Yes it I did it with QA

those saying agile is preferable these days may work in specific industries (IT / systems)

PRINCE2 is still the foundation of project management methodology and will be useful even in a agile environment

Most large scale projects will use a hybrid approach so waterfall is always useful

Good luck!

My husband did this, then TOGAF and it catapulted his career. Not sure on course cost as it was in house but the increase in salary would have made up for it for sure.

ToastieSnowy · 07/11/2021 08:29

I did a 5 day course. On day 3 you took the foundation paper and on day 5 the practitioner. The course was intense but very well done. It was through The Knowledge Academy.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 07/11/2021 08:33

I recently used Knowledge Academy self-guided online. Online e-learning module and exams via online proctered portal. It was very time intensive, and I found I had to concentrate on studying over 1-2 weeks as spreading it out longer meant I kept having to recap earlier weeks and I didn't progress. I got very good passes on both exams, but but it was hard work (probably 40 hours). They currently have an offer on for about £800. There is also PRINCE2 with agile course to consider.

lentilsforever · 07/11/2021 08:35

I would not be doing this
And absolutely not self funded

wabbeydabbeydo · 07/11/2021 08:37

Knowledge academy are the one. That said, some do Black Friday deals on their courses so it might be worth looking for something discounted then. Also search via Reed on their courses part of the website as these will show a range of providers and are usually discounted courses. Make sure it's accredited, if it seems too good to be true ie £10 then it probably is but otherwise go for it, check that the price includes the book and exams. In my experience, class based is much easier than the one you do at home and I don't think the price varies too much

Me too also with The Knowledge Academy & Axelos accredited.

I second knowledge academy, I've done Orince, MSL and change mgm..im a programme manager in the NHS.

4 of my team have just done Prince Agile, which they really enjoyed!

I will say I didn't find you needed to do much pre course work, a hour or so of pre reading was about it.

It is helpful to tick a box for career, certainly helps in the NHS moving up bands.

Kerberos · 07/11/2021 08:57

I used Knowledge Academy for mine and paid for it from redundancy money.

Absolutely helped me to get my current role and was worth every penny of the money I paid.

Sometimes you have to take control of.your own skills.

I work now in an agile environment for most projects but parts of PRINCE2 are still relevant when we are planning larger projects with cross functional needs.

It is intense though. You'll need to focus absolutely on it for the week.

user1471538283 · 07/11/2021 09:21

I did it some years ago and it was a really intense week. It was 12 hour days with travelling and then study each evening. You need to only do this for the week to get through it and you need trainer who is focused on you passing the exam not pissing about with their experiences.

Gumbo · 07/11/2021 09:51

I've done it (twice, since it expires after 5 years), but I definitely wouldn't do it now, as Agile is what everything is about now... I did it with Q&A and it was quite intense; several people (who were actual project managers) failed the exams!

JanetandJohn500 · 07/11/2021 14:19

Try this guy Zindiak
Excellent customer service and all available online. Can't fault him!

LazySundayPlease · 07/11/2021 14:30

Learning Tree are a brilliant training company, take a look at their website.

I'd recommend in person training (London) but they also offer online.

Polmuggle · 07/11/2021 18:16

I agree knowledge academy and that it's weird you'd pay for itself - are you aware of how much they cost OP?

If you do have to pay, wait for Black Friday - they have big sales

StarcourtMall · 07/11/2021 21:27

Thanks all. Lots to look in to. I’ll look at Agile too. I was discussing this with my brother the other day. He works in IT and I can totally see how that approach would work better for him.
