I Just Had A Terrible Thought About Supermarket Sandwiches

What if the 2 triangles enclosed in their card and cellophane coffin are from 2 different square whole sandwiches?! I feel very uneasy thinking that my 2 christmassy sandwich triangles that I ate by a river earlier weren't related in any way. Has anybody checked this out by trying to reassemble the parts?

Shoes? Socks? Milk? Triple sarnies? Sad things I didn’t realised mattered to me until now.

FreshFancyFrogglette · 06/11/2021 22:51

This is so interesting. I don't know how I thought that shoes were made, but not this way. Wow, knowledge that I didn't realise i needed in my life. Blush wonder who I can pass this pearl on to tomorrow...

Also, laughing at the poster who gave op a biscuit Grin. Can imagine it being the final straw in a very long day...
"Not got time for this shit today", moment.

You have to accept that this must’ve gone on in the past as it makes more sense to split up the sandwich partners and box them separately than flip them one on top of another in a sort of coupling arrangement as this adds a separate step to the process and this would effect efficiency.

In fact I’d say it’s highly unlikely you ever get the whole sandwich and not two separate halves. Have you thought about writing to one of the major supermarkets to ask about fir more details about their methods? Hopefully they will be able to give you the answers you are looking for.

Good luck.

One of my teenage summer jobs was making sandwiches. 1,500 of the bastards every day for six weeks. I promise you OP, I buttered every slice, filled every filling, and kept those slices together as a pair until they went to their new guardian.

New slices together? Not on my watch.

Hortonhearsadoctorwho · 06/11/2021 22:52

Told ds who is now horrified. What have you started op?!

EastWestWhosBest · 06/11/2021 22:56

@VsgKitt

Actually... Are shoes even really pairs? Or are all the left and rights made separately and they're just put in a box with no real relationship Confused Does being put in the box make them a pair.
For various long reasons my parents had a company that had dealings with East German factories just as the wall was coming down and the boarders were opening. One factory was a shoe factory. For the first 6 months of the year they made left shoes and of the second 6 months they made right shoes…..
TossieFleacake · 06/11/2021 22:57

It also means that someone, somewhere, is eating the other half of your sandwiches.

This has blown my mind and made me a little sad.

@Puzzledandpissedoff

DH didn’t know there was any difference between the top and bottom crust on a slice of bread

Neither did I, @IcedCoffeeAlways Blush

You're going to have to put me out of my misery and explain now ... how can two ends be different? Surely they're just a bit more rounded and brown on one side?

She means the crust of the slice.

Like the bottom crust is flat and the top is slightly rounded.

See my beautiful diagram... She got two red triangles.

I often think this about the boots 3 sandwich, sandwiches who has the other half of those sandwiches?

Hm2020 · 06/11/2021 23:03

I’ve never thought of this before but I bet your right it’s not gonna stop me eating them though. Where did you get your Christmas sandwich from asking for a friend?

TwinklyBranch · 06/11/2021 23:03

I wish I'd never opened this thread. It's upset me considerably.

magicstar1 · 06/11/2021 23:04

@VsgKitt I’d never thought of that. I don’t like it…make me sad for the shoes in some way

justasking111 · 06/11/2021 23:04

I'm more concerned that my M&S SANDWICH is assembled in Thailand by immigrant workers to be honest

00100001 · 06/11/2021 23:06

@NowWhatUsernameShallIHave

Biscuit
You know...the top and bottom bit of the jammy dodger was never a pair either....

Probably two different doughs...on two different production lines, one with a hole stamp, one without....then they just randomly get paired ...

Maybe the other half went to Tesco...
TheChip · 06/11/2021 23:07

What happens to the heart shape that's cut out of the jammy dodger? Hmm

I dunno about OP but I got a Turkey and trimmings sandwich from tesco last week. It now tastes like ashes in my mouth.
Farcry66 · 06/11/2021 23:08

When I make picnics the sandwiches that get packed together are often unrelated. I make a stack of them, cut them down the middle in rectangles rather than across the diagonal and then wrap the half stack.

I realise now that what I have been doing is wrong. When I think about all the hurt I have caused!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/11/2021 23:10

Many thanks, @00100001 - that makes perfect sense now Grin

The rest of the thread, on the other hand, has freaked me right out ...

It's a bloody long way for a sandwich to travel innit?
MotherOfCrocodiles · 06/11/2021 23:11

I once did a brain anatomy class and we were provided with a bucket containing "a brain and a half". The half brain was so you could see the midline structures but arrrrgh I felt each brain should have an individual bucket!

I'm always sad when I see one swan on a lake, because swans mate for life and should come in pairs. I don't want swans to be lonely. Although I confess aim drunk, but it's still something I think about when I'm sober.
