What do your extra (child) guests sleep on?

If we have five guests arriving next month, and only beds for 2 of them, what would you provide for the extra kids to sleep on?
DH says inflatable mattress, but I have horriffic memories of crackly things that slowly deflate overnight. Is there a better option these days that doesnt cost a fortune?? And ideally is small to store!!!

How old are they? My dc have floor cushions from Vertbaudet which friends use when they sleep over. They’re only 120cm long so might have to think up something new soon. I did have a brainwave earlier to try using the outdoor furniture cushions lined up so going to try that next week.

The last inflatable mattress we had got a puncture on the first use and I haven’t bought another yet!

Taller than 120cm!
8 and 10, but bigger than my 10 and 12 yr olds.
Weve been back in the UK for 2.5 years, and not had this many guests before!

Depends on the age I think. We've been visiting various family with our 2 year old and in one house she had a single futon and the other a double air bed. Both worked well although tonight we'll probably have DH on the futon and me and DD in the bed as she was quite unsettled last night (I think she'd gotten used to rolling all over the double air mattress).

You can get some really comfy inflatable mattresses with quilted tops now.

Have a look in Argos.

I slept on air bed & it was more comfortable than I'd anticipated.

We use a fold chair bed thingy that is 220cmx60cmx14cm plus a double airbed and a slide out Ikea sofabed in my office that goes from 90xm to 180cm extended. We also have a bunkbed in one of the kids bedrooms so one kid can bunk in with their sibling when we have guests. This means we can accommodated 6 extra people, 7 if someone wants to sleep on the big sofa. Maybe I just need to open an hotel...

Airbed in our house, we have an electric pump so you can inflate it well. Nothing worse than a saggy airbed.

sofakingcool · 06/11/2021 20:28

We have a cube, a square foam block that folds out to make a short mattress, quite comfy for a child (not so much for an adult..!)

Air mattresses are great now. We have an Amazon basics one which self inflates and stores really small and it wasn't that expensive. It feels almost like a normal bed.

Tiredpigeon · 06/11/2021 20:37

We've found this sort of thing best for all ages and it lives under a bed when not in use. www.argos.co.uk/product/3916146

Air beds or sofa or floor with a sleeping or yoga mat. Z beds are still available if you have room to store them.

You could make a den to make sleeping on the floor more appealing if there is room.

A couple of years ago I had to sleep on the floor for a year and a half. And tbh I gave up on the air bed option as it gave me back ache and used a sleeping bag and a couple of thick blankets as a mattress. With a duvet and blanket on top of me.

Air beds are fine, get a good one

RockinHorseShit · 06/11/2021 21:28

Air beds, we use them for camping too, they are much better now than they used to be

InTheLabyrinth · 06/11/2021 21:42

Ok. Air bed it is. Any recommendations?
