How did you become a millionaire

Go on, make me extremely jealous of how you became a millionaire, what it's really like and is it what it's cracked up to be? What sort of luxury do you indulge in that people like me can simple not afford ...

Take it away...

@Dreamstate

Recently became a millionaire, bought a crypto coin and 7 days later im now rich! And yes I've cashss it out and its in my bank account. Unfortunately capital gains will take a bit but still its absolutely insane. I'm going to be mortgage free shortly and so many options now.
What crypto coin was it?
MumsTheWordFact · 06/11/2021 21:59

Fraud

Fairyfalls · 06/11/2021 22:00

Lottery isn't the answer then?! Give me some hope please 😁

Porfre · 06/11/2021 22:00

@WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia

If this was a few months ago, we could have asked Xenia how she got her fake millions. Haven’t seen her around since she accidentally revealed she was poor though.
Didnt see.this.

Is that true?

Planning on this being me in about 10 years. I'll be 48 then. Good time to retire.
GoodnightGrandma · 06/11/2021 22:02

My dad considers himself a millionaire because, if he sold everything , that’s what he thinks he’d have.
Personally I’d only consider myself one if I had that much money in the bank, on top of a house/car/etc.

trilbydoll · 06/11/2021 22:04

I was just trying to work out if I pushed DH under a bus whether I'd be a millionaire but sadly I don't think his life insurance is worth enough. I think we are both still worth more alive than dead Grin

MarlowMafia · 06/11/2021 22:06

Many people know who Xenia is in real life, so it’s likely the poor persona that is the fake one.

coodawoodashooda · 06/11/2021 22:06

@blink1eight2

I got married.
That so didn't happen to me.
CaptSkippy · 06/11/2021 22:07

In my dreams I won the lottery and invested it wisely, so now I am set up for life.

Then I wake up and have to get ready for work.

Applesonthelawn · 06/11/2021 22:12

Property. Also managed to hold on to very well paid jobs in finance despite being a single mum. Paid for private education and a nanny on my own but still managed to save quite a bit. Scaled back for a while when ds was little but still earned £80K then for a 9-5 job, family friendly company, enough to tick over. Then went back to higher paid job when youngest was 8 and I remarried. Basically property and I earned the rest and just stuck at it.

Libertaire · 06/11/2021 22:14

Not me (sadly!), but DP’s parents.

Decades ago, they started a retail business in an affluent town in the South-East. The business did well, they built it up and it quickly outgrew the premises, so they bought a much larger shop on the high street. The business continued to prosper and eventually they paid off the mortgage and owned the building outright.

By the early 2000s retail & commercial property were booming and a multinational corporate decided they wanted a shop in a prime location in the town, so they made DP's parents an offer they couldn’t refuse. I don’t know how much, but it was several million. They retired, obviously.

HarrisMcCoo · 06/11/2021 22:16

@Santastuckincustoms

Pfft a million won't even buy you a good family home with a garden where I am. I want to know how people made their billions Grin
No, no, I want to know how people made squillioms🤣🤣
HarrisMcCoo · 06/11/2021 22:16

Squillions👀

3lilbirds · 06/11/2021 22:18

I would be if I sold my properties (not including my home).

I was born early 80s and bought a few properties in London from 2003 - 2007. Then stopped. Credit crunch killed it off, and I got a little jaded with having tenants. I just want all of my children to have one house each when I pass away, so I know they always have a roof over their heads. But I now make £8k per month from them before tax and expenses, a decent wage even in London.

I earn a decent wage otherwise too and I do invest. If I keep going I hope to have around £2-3m by time I retire in 15 years. I'm 40 now. I'm really not interested in more than that. No need. I shop in Lidl and buy clothes in the sale. If I lived bigger, I'd have much less to invest. And I'd also worry about my self esteem if i had wear designer to feel good. I honestly think I'm hot in primark clothes!!

Haaaaaaaaa!

ufucoffee · 06/11/2021 22:22

My exh is a millionaire. Hardly went to school. No qualifications. Started his own in business. Worked 7 days a week when we were married. Business was successful. Started other businesses. They were successful and so on

I know who Xenia is in RL. I’m quite sure she’s not poor.

I got this email from a Nigerian Prince asking me to help him..

HollowTalk · 06/11/2021 22:31

Xenia doesn't have fake millions. She's a wealthy but very hard-working woman. I've read an article on her in the newspaper. There's nothing fake about her, in fact she's very open and blunt about what she says about her life.

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 06/11/2021 22:31

@Porfre

Maybe Xenia gets a kick out of pretending to be poor online. It looked like a name change fail. The thread was deleted shortly after because people were “derailing” it.

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 06/11/2021 22:33

@PegasusReturns @HollowTalk

Well then it’s either a millionaire pretending to be poor online for some reason or someone has stolen the identity/life story of the real life millionaire.

clickable · 06/11/2021 22:35

follygirl what does your DH do?

Barbarababa · 06/11/2021 22:38

My parents (60s) are millionaires. They were cleaners/ porters in public sector. They climbed the property ladder after buying their council house, worked up to 7 days a week for many years to pay the mortgage. Very frugal, but we did go on package holidays. They would have been earning around minimum wage their whole lives. Neither completed school education in U.K.

I am a professional and earn several times what they would have earned. I own a crappier house than what they started in (same town). My dad was appalled, but it’s all we could afford.

Friend of mine is a millionaire through early inheritance- his parents are still in good health. Came from property/ business, but enabled by ‘old money‘ grandparents (ie fruits of colonialism from what I can tell).

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 06/11/2021 22:39

I got 1.4 million from my ex husband when we separated. He owns a business and sold some of his shares and gave me half.

I bought a house, renovated it, started my own business and had a few years of being quite frivolous with money and now I dont have much cash/savings but I have a house that is worth just under a million with no mortgage and a business that’s doing pretty well. Money definitely makes life a lot easier and more enjoyable!

Iflyaway · 06/11/2021 22:41

Pfft a million won't even buy you a good family home with a garden where I am.

Just showing how crazy it is now.

It's madness that housing is generally out of all most people's reach....

Something will have to give sooner or later.
