Help with my awful monstera plant!

Hi all, my monstera is looking very, very dreadful. I've had it for about a year. The leaves started turning yellow and brown last winter, so I moved it into a sunnier spot and watered it a bit less (this it what the Internet told me to do). It hasn't really helped. Weirdly, it keeps occasionally sprouting new leaves so it's not actually dying (not going to lie, I kind of want it to do I can ditch it without the guilt!).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong /how to help? I'm generally awful with plants, although seem to be doing fairly well with the others I've brought into the house over the last year 🤷‍♀️.

Have you fed it?

I'm wondering if the pot is big enough. Is it close to radiator? Or being scorched by strong sunlight?

I'd cut the dead off, top dress the soil, feed it and hope for the best!

Re pot it into fresh soil and add fertilizer balls?

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon!

True, they don't like direct sunlight, mine got scorched in the summer from direct sunlight so I had to move it

Thanks all. It's not in direct sunlight at all. Not near a radiator either (we have underfloor heating but it's off the floor). I fed it a while ago. I could try re-potting it, maybe onto a larger pot... I've never done this so it's worth a go. Can anyone recommend a good compost (I'm so crap at this stuff!)?

We have several of these plants - between 20 and 3 years old.
This could be a fungal infection or hard water damage
if it had no direct sunlight, not been under / over watered, and not been left sitting in the damp

If watering less hasn't helped with the brownness, then the environment is probably too dry, even if your plant is not near a radiator. Mist the leaves and the aerial roots regularly. They are rainforest plants so like humidity.
Push roots into soil or add a moss stick for them. Clean/dust larger leaves.

Make sure you allow soil to dry out between waterings for most of the year, but can be slightly moist Nov-March.
Light, but not direct sunlight.

Have you got another photo that better shows the size of the pot? In those pictures it's hard to tell, but it looks pretty small.

Repotting isn't anywhere near as scary or hard as it seems. Just Google how to repot a house plant and you'll be fine.

YogaLite · 06/11/2021 13:17

To be honest, I would chop it up and start afresh, I have done that successfully in the past years ago.

Looks like thrips damage to me. Are there little black spots (thrips poop) or tiny white wiggling larvae on the leaves? Not sure if that's what I'm seeing in the first pic?
