Electric Cars....?

I have just been offered a new job within the ULEZ zone meaning I will need to get a new car- public transport is double the journey time sadly.

I am looking at a 2 year lease on an electric vehicle. My new workplace has charging points so the lease cost will be offset against a much cheaper 'fuel' bill. It's approx 35 miles each way - motorways primarily so will need a lease with high mileage allowance- at least 15000 per annum.

I'll be keeping my big (old) diesel X3 for weekends/long journeys/dog walks so don't need a big car for commuting- I quite like the look of the electric minis and Fiat 500s (although think the latter may be too small).

Can you share your EV tales with me? Any recommendations? My budget is about £400 a month.

Sounds great you won’t regret it. We own a larger EV outright so I can’t comment on leasing or small EVs but my MiL has a Honda-e which is a small and funky looking thing which she loves so worth looking at those. Range is not great though I think only about 120 miles.

I would however be weary on being totally reliant on Charging at work. Chargers break down a lot. There might soon be more EVs than chargers in your work car park? You can mitigate the risk by charging at home OR using another public charger from time to time (a lot are springing up now)

Do you have off street parking at home? You don’t necessarily need an installed charger but the option to charge overnight with a three point plug will be very useful.

Yes, should have said can charge at home too so a very long range is not a huge issue.

I have a designated parking space (with charger) at new workplace though which is both exciting and makes me feel like a bit of a knob Grin

I have some time to test drive etc but good to hear you're loving electric- I'm not a petrol head at all so have no qualms; only keeping the other car as a workhorse!

Great
Oh yeah I’m a total convert after being initially sceptical. We are a one car family too so 100% electric.
Bear in mind all EVs are automatic. Suits me great but some people aren’t keen on this
They cost pennies to run and it’s not just the lack of petrol/diesel -servicing is less too as less to go wrong.

We have recently bought a second hand Leaf and absolutely love it. So quiet and pleasant to drive.
