This is apart from Lemsip and Eucalyptus inhalation/drinking plenty of fluid which I’ve tried.

This cold ain’t shifting and I’ve got rid of so much gunk it’s unbelievable 🤢.
I have a family baptism to go to tomorrow in a bloody freezing cold church.
Any help appreciated please 💐

Please do not do to a baptism tomorrow with a cold. Even if you are feeling better, you will still be spreading it to everyone there, including a baby presumably.

Stay home, sleep, drinking lots of water, get fresh air. Chicken soup.

First defence. Always works for me.

cruffin · 06/11/2021 06:13

You are sick. It's too late to try and stop it. You can't go.

Decongestant like sudofen

I've never got rid of a cold in 24 hours - sometimes I have them for two weeks!

Metallicalover · 06/11/2021 06:28

You can't shift a cold in 24 hours. If this was a thing it would be well known and everyone would do it.
Hope your feel better soon x

Insert1x20p · 06/11/2021 06:31

You cant shift it but Otrivin Nasal Spray will make you feel extremely human again - is magic darts and clears your sinuses pretty much instantly.

Sorry to hear you are ill. On the off chance you can get to France today these are the absolute bomb. www.soin-et-nature.com/en/2805-fervex-adult-sachets-8.html sadly you can't buy then or the equivalent ingredients in the UK

The French strepsils are amazing too.

I would recommend taking paracetamol, pseudoephedrine (or another decongestant), zinc, vitamin c and garlic and think that's the best you'll be able to get.

Hot ribena with rum (dark), honey and lemon family favourite too.

Good luck

A cold is a virus and will run it’s course. Nothing will clear it in 24 hours unfortunately.

Treatments will just alleviate your symptoms.

LefttoherownDevizes · 06/11/2021 06:36

Turns out the 'magic' ingredient is pretty much piriton so may be worth trying if you have any at home?

EgonSpengler2020 · 06/11/2021 06:45

You can't shift a cold quicker than the natural course of the virus and your immune systems capabilities. You can give your immune system a fighting chance by treating and not going out.

We are in the middle of a pandamic where is in not unheard of for covid to involve coryzal (snot) symptoms, and for the presentation of common cold in some individuals to mimic covid symptoms. So at best you could pass this common cold on to guests at the baptism that then go on too be inconvenienced by having symptoms that tick the boxes for isolation and testing (and some caring occupations still can't work patient facing just based on symptoms they or their child has), or at worst you cause a superspreader covid event. So don't be a dick, stay at home.

EgonSpengler2020 · 06/11/2021 06:46

resting not treating

EgonSpengler2020 · 06/11/2021 06:48

Also RSV which is a common cause of the "common cold" in adults and older kids can hospitalise and even kill a young baby by causing bronchiolitis. Presumably at a baptism there will be young babies.

NisekoWhistler · 06/11/2021 06:58

Manuka honey not from the supermarket, a decent one around the £30 mark

Itsjustnotcricketisit · 06/11/2021 06:59

Ah…..
I have found some allergy relief tablets in our first aid box, one a day.
I’ll try those and see how I go.
Thank you 🙂
Apart from that, no I won’t be going to the baptism tomorrow.

It's a cold, it's a virus and we have no cure for it yet. Just stay home, especially in the current times when you can't be entirely sure it's only a cold.
