I don't necessarily want to ban fireworks.....

......but I think the noise they create could be limited.

They don't need bangs that shake windows to be appreciated.

Couldn't we just ban the sale of fireworks above a certain number of decibels to the public and only allow the large, louder versions to be available to people with licenses running organised displays?

There are so many people who find the loud bangs distressing, either directly or because they distress their animals, it seems to make sense to at least stop them being so loud.

I'm totally with you. I quite like them - visually - but absolutely hate the loud bangs. My cats also only seem to react to the very loud ones when they are going off constantly.

Saying that I also think they should be better controlled in general as my local area has a problem every year with teenagers gathering in the town centre shooting fireworks at people. The police has actually fenced off the whole square this year as it's been so bad around Halloween/earlier this week.

We're currently sitting with four dogs, one of which is seriously sedated at a significant cost and one who is running and hiding every time she hears a bang.

I quite like watching fireworks but can't any more because the bangs are so big that we have to concentrate on keeping all the dogs safe and as relaxed as possible.

Completely agree, OP. It sounds like a bloody war zone once the idiot neighbours start letting the things off. My cat has dashed off and hidden in terror.
Fireworks can be beautiful - I’ve seen some brilliant displays set to music - but the godawful racket needs to be restricted by law. Also the number of nights they can be permitted should be restricted. I’d say just bonfire night and New Year’s Eve.
