What’s that thick chalky poison in science lessons

Argh it’s really irritating. Watching a show where someone is poisoned and it’s reminded me of science lessons in second year secondary. Sort of a thick chalky white thing you weren’t meant to drink?

You are not meant to eat or drink anything in a lab - but I’m intrigued now…

No idea what you are thinking of btw but looking forward to hearing the suggestions!

Calcium carbonate?

StormOfSekhmet · 04/11/2021 21:37

Is it Barium Sulfate?

Limewater?

InTheLabyrinth · 04/11/2021 21:59

For 12 yr olds? Depending on how long ago you went to school, I doubt it was anything horrific.
Probably limewater (calcium hydroxide) - breathe through a straw into it, and it goes milky because of the carbon dioxide.

Sudden death for anyone stupid enough to lick the desk in our school science lab. I'm sure our mad scientist teacher would have self-combusted too.

No idea if anything particularly nasty, sorry

Oooh lime and straws is ringing a bell. I got sent outside to stand by the wall for drinking some so clearly not fatal. I was quite attention seeking though.

Yes must have been about 12.

Milk of magnesium? Sounds chalky and white!

Noeuf · 05/11/2021 08:36

I’ve googled and it must be the lime water. Secondary school was so weird.
