Anyone got a CSSC discount card?

Hi everyone,

I've recently started working for the Civil Service and I've been looking into getting a discount card. Ive been researching online and there have been a lot of posts about how good the CSSC card is.

When I look on the CSSC website it doesnt clearly say how much discount you actually get at the listed retailers. For example, how much discount is available as Asda or at AO?

We are a family of 5 so I'd love to use the card for shopping, says out and holidays etc.

If anyone could give me some more information on exactly what kind of discounts are available, I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

I think you get 5% at Sainsbury... but I haven't signed up yet.

I just looked on the websites. Cashback % when I searched supermarkets. Tesco and Asda upto 3, Sainsburys and Morrisons upto 4.

I use the Cinema discount regularly, along with free Cadw admission (as in Wales) so I find it pays for itself most years. I've also claimed back Half Marathon race entry fees too.

I'm a member and I think it's awesome, although, the pandemic has meant they haven't been able to do lots of their discounted trips.

I save hundreds per year normally.

Cinema - you can save 40% on most chains like Odeon, vue cineworld, empire. This pays for my membership in itself.

Days out - save around 1/4 on selected days out like zoos. I saved £5 a ticket on Merlin attractions like Thorpe Park and Chessington.

Shopping - save around 5% on argos, curry's etc. You have to buy vouchers and the saving is given as cash back. I have over £500 in my account, which I've collected over about 4 years. Be warned that you have to pay 25p per transaction.

English Heritage/Kew gardens - you get free Corporate membership. We've visited quite a few EH properties. I love that we can go for free.

Subsidies - you can get subsidies for some activity like Go Ape. I saved £10-£15 on tickets for me and OH.

I’ve had it over a decade and haven’t used it once. I do keep meaning to, because they do some fantastic trips and free entry into so many things, but at the moment it’s just a waste of money.

I only use mine for the cinema discount.

skippy67 · 03/11/2021 12:44

And 20% off my EE phone contract

How does the voucher thing work? And what discounts are available ar AO?

For some cashback offers, you buy gift cards, which you top up online and it takes a few days for the gift card to be topped up. Some companies offer e-vouchers for set amounts, which you can use straight away. You pay for your voucher and then you get cash back in your online account which you can withdraw whenever you want.

AO cash back is 1-2%. You go through CSSC and click the AO link and purchase your order from AO in the normal way. At some point, your cash back will be credited to your account. It's important that your basket with AO is empty when you go through CSSC otherwise you may not get the cashback.

It sounds complicated, but isnt.
