Meno brain fog self help tips?

colabottlejelliesarethebest · 02/11/2021 19:52

Having terrible brain fog and struggling to keep up in my very busy job.

Does anyone have any suggestions that will help?

I'm on HRT already and it's been pretty effective most of the time it's mostly just the brain fog that's troubling me.

Bump

Lists! I write lists at the end of each working day, a list containing everything I need to remember to say to each person in advance of meeting them. Annotate all my paperwork. A list of my key tasks for my day then add minor notes as I go along. Nothing helps with searching for the precise word I’m looking for though, I just have to go for the closest word I can call to mind Blush

cromwell44 · 02/11/2021 22:55

Does the HRT help with the brain fog OP? I’m tempted for that reason alone.

pamplemoussed · 02/11/2021 22:56

In meetings I write everything down and any actions for me I highly with a highlighter pen. I go back and strike through my highlighted notes throughout the day to try and not forget important actions.

TreborBore · 02/11/2021 22:59

I am experiencing the same. Bumping for further suggestions. Has anyone found any food supplements are helpful?

RampantIvy · 02/11/2021 23:01

No advice, but it does get better.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 02/11/2021 23:06

Oh I'm following this. I can't function at the moment...the brain fog is awful

SingleHandSue · 02/11/2021 23:13

I’m wondering if I’m Peri menopausal because of the awful brain fog I have at the moment.

It’s so bad I can’t string a sentence together sometimes or I look at people blankly because I just don’t know what I’m supposed to say!

I originally blamed lockdown anxiety and not socialising but I think coupled with some other symptoms, peri may be the reason.

My desk at work is covered in post it’s with key words on them Grin

Lists.

Lots of supplements: Vit D spray, iron capsules, B-complex and L-Tyrosine all help with clearing the brain fog. As does cutting right back on alcohol.

Redcrayons · 02/11/2021 23:18

Write everything down.

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 02/11/2021 23:19

2 cups of coffee a day, caffeine stimulates executive function.

Do everything in the same order every day, so everything's a cue for everything else.

dahliaaa · 02/11/2021 23:21

@rampantivy does it really get better ? Do you mind if I ask what stage you're at now.

I'm finding the brain fog so difficult.

These! Plus I take a magnesium supplement.

All the supplements, big whiteboards everywhere with time-lines for me and the kids. I started bullet Journalling a couple of years ago, which has helped. Also, taking a couple of draining commitments off my plate, and scaling back the favours I'd been doing. Upping the hrt to maximum the gp will allow, trying to get a decent period of daylight every day, allowing myself a short nap after lunch, zero alcohol and as much caffeine as you can personally tolerate without being anxious or sleepless. Good luck, it does get easier.

madmomma · 02/11/2021 23:30

undead that's a great tip actually, about doing things in an order. Sort of making it so that one thing leads to another as much as poss. The book 'atomic habits' helped me with this, also one by bj Fogg - I forget what it's called- I need rock solid routines now so much more than when younger. Changes in routine make me confused

madmomma · 02/11/2021 23:35

trebor the supplements I'm taking which seem the most helpful are definitely d, b12 and iron. I'm taking a load of other odds and sods too, out of desperation, but they're the ones I rely on. They definitely help. As does the extra HRT.

madmomma · 02/11/2021 23:37

Oh and more water than you can imagine. That really helps actually. I know everyone says water helps everything, but honestly, drink til you feel like you're drowning and you will see a difference in your brain power. Complete pain in the arse having to wee all the time but you can't have everything.

Oh yes. I forgot - ditch all voluntary work and all one-sided friendships. Pare life down to work, home, fitness and friends. You can volunteer again when your head is clear.
dahliaaa · 03/11/2021 00:00

Are you all on hrt ?

dahliaaa · 03/11/2021 00:01

Sorry should have said - I'm not but seems like increasing numbers are taking it and I wonder if I should be. Brain fog is the thing that worries me most at the moment.

PruGnu · 03/11/2021 00:11

Write everything down, I've ditched google calendar and notes etc and am back to writing a paper diary, paper memo or notepad and wall calendar. It helps set things in my brain to write them in a way it never did typing them into my phone. Cut unnecessary commitments etc, lockdown helped me realise that I find life easier to manage when there is less going on. I've just started HRT and am feeling a little clearer in my mind.

TonyThreePies · 03/11/2021 00:33

Just taking a seat here. I'm fed up and miserable right now of being menopausal. Brain fog is indeed one of the worst aspects, I used to be sharp as hell - now I can't remember what someone has said when they leave the room.

RoyalMush · 03/11/2021 00:49

Keep a pen and paper handy or your phone charged so you can make notes constantly before you forget stuff.

iwishiwasafish · 03/11/2021 01:01

It’s the inability to form coherent sentences that is really getting to me. I used to be so eloquent! Now I have to have 3-4 attempts to make key points.

I do this

I was given HRT for my brain fog but I can honestly say that whilst it helped with other menopause symptoms I hadn’t previously noticed that much it’s made zero difference to the brain fog

And here I am at 4 a.m. Grin
