Heated Airer Recommendation?

Sussexbonfireviking · 02/11/2021 18:44

My dm wants a heated clothes airer. Covered, good size, and collapsible. Roughly £100

Does anyone have any experience of these? Are they any good? Would you recommend one or are they a bit shit?

Thanks

I bought the Lakeland knock off version in Home Bargains and it didn't work. I just bought an extra airer and put it beside the radiator.

Thanks, she doesn't have conventional heating..... no radiators

I bought the lakeland dry soon airer a month ago and it is amazing. I put a load of washing on whilst I make dinner, once I'm finished clearing the kitchen, I put up airer and hang washing. By the time I get up in the morning it's dry so I take it off the airer and fold it whilst the coffee brews. Saves on some (not all) ironing too.

I bought one from Argos with a cover for about 40 quid and to be honest I'm quite disappointed with it. As PP said, I find a normal airer pushed nearish to the electric heater works better. It doesn't seem to get the clothes dry much quicker than just leaving them on a normal airer. It may be that the Lakeland one is better? I wish I'd paid more and tried that one instead. It does seem to work if things are laid out flat over it eg sheets but otherwise I'm not impressed.

Do you use a cover with it @BergamotandLime?

BergamotandLime · 02/11/2021 23:03

Yes, I put the cover on. I can dry a full load on it (a 6kg washing machine). I tend to hang stuff over three bars each, a couple more for thicker stuff like DH's thick jumpers.

Small room and a dehumidifier is more efficient and works quicker, heated airier fills the room with moisture and you can quickly get damp etc.

Bloodypunkrockers · 02/11/2021 23:04

I have the Lakeland plait the cover

It takes ages for clothes to dry and is really awkward to hand clothes on

I despise mine

BeggarsMeddle · 03/11/2021 11:43

@Bloodypunkrockers
Have you got the cross type rather than the H type? I'm upgrading mine to an H type as the vertical bar in the middle of the front is a pain.

I use mine with a dehumidifier to reduce moist air and keep the door to the room closed.

Mine is like a tall cube. With two fixed posts and two that you move to flip the shelves up

I have to twist to hang things

I might look at the H one as I dislike putting the central heating on just to dry clothes

I got one from Dunelm. Loved it so much I bought another. Lifesaver in winter.

After a few years of dithering (due to the cost) I bought the Lakeland delux a few months ago, with a cover. I love it. Dries a full load overnight (though a few heavy items might need to be left for longer). A huge improvement on the multiple racks we used to have huddled around the radiators. It feels safe and sturdy, and collapses down into a compact unit. I move it between two rooms and it just fits through the doors when fully up. It is expensive though - just under £200 I think. There is a smaller version. For us it is definitely worth it, especially in the winter.

From looking at the reviews the key does seem to be to use a cover.

You can buy refurbished dry-soons on Lakeland’s eBay. I think ours was £65 instead of around £145
