As scams go some are so very well done that even the most tech savvy of us can be caught out but earlier today I had the most bizarre scam call I even asked the 'agent' on the other side how many people he manages to scam with this particular ruse.
The call was ostensibly from Amazon asking me if I'd like to either confirm purchase of an iPhone or receive a refund. I of course haven't ordered an iPhone so I said I'd take the refund
He then asked me what device I have and asked me to download an app called Any Desk from the app store. I looked at this app and it apparently allows people to gain remote access to your device. I played along for a while and he asked me to give him the code generated when I downloaded the app (I didn't download it but I assume this is the code which would have allowed him access). After a while I got bored and asked him how many people he's managed to trick given this is such a long-winded ruse. Wouldn't alarm bells have been ringing from the apparent purchase of an iPhone let alone going to the lengths of downloading an app to give them access to my phone?
