Weird text from TrackMyCase.com

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 17:02

Does anyone know anything about this - who they are, and why they would have sent me a text?

Or is it some sort of scam?

A quick Google says it's genuine, something about checking your case (looks like something to do with property purchase). Are you in the process of buying or selling a property?

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 01/11/2021 17:06

Even if TrackMyCase.com is legit it could still be a scam text from someone pretending to be them. What’s it asking you to do?

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 17:06

No, I'm not doing anything at all either financial or legal.

I think they're something to do with conveyancing.
Are you buying or selling property?

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 01/11/2021 17:08

X post.
Then ignore it.
It's either scam or someone's entered a mobile number wrongly

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 01/11/2021 17:08

I recommend ignoring it then - any link it’s asking you to click on will almost definitely be a scam.

whatswithtodaytoday · 01/11/2021 17:09

Are you remortgaging? We got them recently, they do look do dodgy but were legit. Our mortgage broker told us to just ignore them.

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 17:09

It is a link to TrackMyCase.com (which I have not done) and:

"Thank you for returning your documents to the law firm. They will review these and contact you if they require any further information."

I did get something similar a couple of weeks ago but just deleted it.

OP posts:
EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 01/11/2021 17:10

I’d delete this one too.

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 17:12

It's all very odd. You don't think there might be some identity theft going on, do you?

I don't use my phone online at all - it might be smart, but I'm a technodinosaur.

OP posts:
EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 01/11/2021 17:15

I get fake texts fairly regularly claiming to come from various banks, DHL etc. Identity theft is probably the idea. This is a link to the National Cyber Security Centre, which includes instructions on how to report dodgy texts: www.ncsc.gov.uk/guidance/suspicious-email-actions

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 17:21

I've deleted it now, so I'll wait and see if I get any more.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 01/11/2021 17:21

Ok.

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 17:39

Thanks for your help folks Smile

Hmm might be worth setting up an Experian/clear score account to see if any recent credit checks have been done

I saw that guy whose house in Luton got sold from under his nose and he had no idea! Identity thieves are v cunning

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 21:35

Good idea, thanks.

MustDust · 01/11/2021 21:38

Entirely possible someone has made a typo when they have filled in their forms. Check your credit score to be on the safe side.

Redshoeblueshoe · 01/11/2021 21:40

I'd say scam. I've had a few claiming to be from a delivery company. I don't think I've bought anything online this year

cuttlefishgame · 01/11/2021 23:18

Yeah I can spot the delivery ones a mile off - I deal with a lot of courier and freight emails and whatnot at work.

I've never checked my credit score. Never found a reason for doing it so I wouldn't know what I was looking at.

Have a look at the Martin Lewis website for advice on how to check your credit score.

hawtpot · 01/11/2021 23:26

I'm with Experian, I pay a smal monthly fee and it will send me an email alert if any companies check my credit history or anything like that. There are sections that tell you what credit cards/loans etc are open in your name, any people financially linked to you etc. It's all pretty straightforward

Notwhatiimagined · 02/11/2021 09:31

I think its a genuine one for someone who is buying property but the number the law firm has for their client is stored incorrectly

Absolutely this! I use ClearScore, its free and really easy to use. I check for any suspicious activity every month or so.
Hazelnut5 · 02/11/2021 10:11

You’ll recognise it when you see it - it will have lots of spookily accurate information about you. If there’s anything on it that doesn’t look like it’s come from your own dealings with financial institutions, then you can investigate. Sometimes it’s just that a business has used a business name that’s unfamiliar to you, but otherwise it can be a sign of dodgy stuff going on.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 03/11/2021 12:29

I’ve got a free ClearScore account too, it explains everything very simply & also emails me when something’s changed.
