How to make coffee...

DH and I are tea drinkers...
DH will happily drink a latte when we're out, but I really can't stand the taste of any sort of coffee. I actually have no idea how to make decent coffee but would like to be able to offer friends a nice coffee when they pop round.
I don't want to make instant coffee as I'd like it to look like I've made an effort...i'm happy to buy a cafetiere, or whatever I need (nothing too expensive though as it won't get much use!)
Can anyone suggest a nice coffee that I can buy that won't go off quickly, is easy to make & tastes nice?

I am a coffee junkie and that is how I have my coffee. Though I have a porcellan thingie that holds the filter.

I use a cafetière which is simple to use and makes excellent coffee.

Don't get hung up on the crema! Read this, try it, and you might not be so bothered 😀

We don’t drink coffee but have a cafetière from ikea that was only about £12 and it’s insulated. It’s really good and fits about 3 cups when full and stays warm ages. Our coffee fussy neighbour went and bought one for himself

Or you can just buy a fine, small sieve and make coffee in any old jug then pour through sieve once brewed. Even less space and cheaper than a cafetière (also scales easily).

We use an aeropress for ourselves but unless you use it regularly it can be a little fiddly also you can only make one cup at a time. Moka pots too can be fiddly unless you use them regularly. I'd get a cafetiere or filter cone.

In a standard Moka? No, no, no!

It takes an extra fine grind and a level of tamping down you stovetop moka can't cope with! Crema is an industry thing, touted to make us home makers feel forever inadequate!

If you simply leave the top open and take the pot off the flame about midway through, you can obtain espresso better than many people ever get in their electric steam espresso or even their pump espresso machines. Don't get hung up on producing crema. If you do get any, think of it as some astral blessing.
