And they are all out of sync Hmm
The things I do for my dog.

She's now hiding under the chair so it didn't even work 😣

Oh no, poor thing.
It's about time they banned fireworks, I feel so sorry for the wild animals too, they must be petrified.

GinJeanie · 30/10/2021 20:13

Aww, poor dog - I feel your pain. My dog's shouting about the (Halloween?) fireworks too. So stressful as he also gets the shakes and pants really fast like he's hyperventilating. Then the lady next door gets eggy with all the barking - luckily he doesn't do it every day.

Well you might be getting your way. I can't find any fireworks displays on at all this year near us. Really disappointed. I'm hoping the neighbours make up for it.
Cocolapew · 30/10/2021 20:17

You know I never even thought about wild animals.
I wish they would just fuck off with them, she's now cowering under DDs bed with the shakes.
Im in NI and you're supposed to apply for a license to have them in your garden, I'm sure nobody around here did Hmm

OP posts:
SatsumaPumpkinFace · 30/10/2021 20:19

To clarify I did mean banning fireworks for personal use not organised displays.
Although I suppose they're all bad for the animals, but at least the displays are over and done with on one night not going on and on every night for the whole of autumn!

Sparklingbrook · 30/10/2021 20:22

There were some really loud ones going off here last night. My poor cat was traumatised, if I'd have known I would have kept her in prior. They were so loud that one of them set a car alarm off. Confused

Cocolapew · 30/10/2021 20:25

We have those loud ones too, its just a massive bang. It even makes me jump Blush.

This is winterpups first bonfire night (or 2 months as it now feels they go one on nightly until NYE), really hoping hes not frightened by them but hes a 6 month old collie who is spooked by anything thats out of place so im preparing for the worst.

Wombat49 · 30/10/2021 20:27

At least with organised displays you can plan & medicate or remove your pets to safe place.

I'm currently cowering in a cold car out in the sticks with a dog on meds & I know I'll spend the first half of Nov doing this, it's miserable.

Cocolapew · 30/10/2021 20:29

The good thing is we usually have fireworks at Halloween only, 5th November isn't really a thing here.

Last year the poor cat was terrified and hiding under the bed. This year I've had the heated throw on well in advance and shes been lying on it in such a deep sleep shes barely noticed Smile

Rety · 30/10/2021 20:35

Poor thing. I hope they eventually get banned for private use and can only be used at organised events.

PeachesPumpkin · 30/10/2021 20:36

There are 2 sides to this argument though.
I love fireworks and they are a traditional thing this time of year which brings joy to so many. I have pets (rabbits) and they don’t like it but they get over it quickly.
It’s been a thing since I was a child and I am 50 now. We always had fireworks in the garden. I enjoy watching the neighbours fireworks displays if they have any.
There is always someone on my local Facebook page who says she has a horse, so no one in the village can have fireworks, which I think is silly. I am not sure how she would feel if people replied that they have fireworks so she can’t have a horse.
Let people have a few short minutes of fun.

Maverickess · 30/10/2021 20:36

My dog gets very wound up and stressed, it's heartbreaking to see her so upset and be unable to do anything.

Unfortunately no amount of soothing did anything to help the residents on the dementia unit I work on being woken last night by a volley of fireworks at 12.30am, expecting this will be it now most weekends until after Christmas 😕 I don't mind fireworks/celebration etc, can cope with it on days you expect but this is getting ridiculous now, gets worse every year.

Cocolapew · 30/10/2021 20:39

It's not a few minutes though, once one finishes someone else starts up. It goes on for hours.

We live near to a theme park who have been putting on a display for 40 minutes now. Ds with asd is downstairs with ear defenders on with my dh. I'm upstairs with dd. She's asleep but only with my arm across her ear. Cats are hiding somewhere. It's absolutely fucking ridiculous

SprayedWithDettol · 30/10/2021 20:49

For dogs I recommend a thunder vest. They do work well (though not for all dogs obviously) for all sorts of stress factors.

Madwife123 · 30/10/2021 20:50

Poor dog!

Mine has diazepam from the vet each year for fireworks. It’s just cruel.

CaddieDawg · 30/10/2021 20:53

There's a countryside visitor centre near me who do fireworks free night in, they are so secluded and surrounded by farms that you can't hear any fireworks. They do guided night walks in their grounds or just let you sit in the cafe with your dog, a cuppa and free wi-fi. Honestly some of my best night out as it's just all dogs and doggy people. They make a fortune out of it so hopefully it'll catch on.

Otherwise my old collie used to appreciate having a 'den' to get away to (a.k.a I cleared out the cupboard under the stairs and soundproofed/made comfy with dog beds/blankets as much as I could) and also doing the wrap thing with a scarf to make them feel secure. None of the sedatives/ hormone sprays etc worked for us.

Cocolapew · 30/10/2021 21:04

That sounds a great idea Caddie.
We're now in bed with Magic Soul blaring, she's sitting between my legs and panting so loud I'm surprised she can hear anything.

I live not far from a posh wedding venue. Fireworks go off all year round there. It's in a rural, agricultural area too. So it's not just Halloween or bonfire night.

Wombat49 · 30/10/2021 21:44

One of my rescue hens died of shock last year too. Fed up of the henhouse being covered in feathers as the hens got distressed. Not sure what I'll do with my poor hens this year.

It's not just a few, if you have a distressed pet, they're distressed for hours. Apparently really bad for asd & dementia people.

Cocolapew · 30/10/2021 21:57

Oh my goodness Wombat thats terrible Shock
