Clocks going back tonight - which of your clocks is most difficult to change?

Suspect this is one of those boring threads that no one will reply to but I'll give it a whirl Halloween Grin.

I've got a vintage pendulum clock where I'll have to stop the pendulum for an hour (or else go through the total PITA that is re-synching its chimes).

It'll take me the customary five minutes of fiddling round to remember how to change the one on the oven.

The one in the car is about to enter its usual 5 months of being an hour fast because we have no idea how to change it.

I recently acquired a radio controlled clock (analogue) and I really want to see what it does when the clocks change but not sure I want to stay up till 2am BST.

Anyone else want to share their clock changing quirks?

All of them. I don't bother with my van clock, which is always on GMT, but those in the house… oh god. Longcase, mantle clocks, bedroom clocks, kitchen clock, garden clock.

I will change one, then DH comes after me and resets it so it is wrong. Or I reset it after him, so it is wrong.
Or neither of us will touch a clock, assuming the other has done it, so it is wrong.
Sometimes, I just think DH has reset one after me, so I reset it, so it is wrong. Sometimes he thinks that, and resets it, so it is wrong.

Before we had iPads and computers and phones that reset themselves, it would take about six months for things to settle down.
Nowadays, we just keep most of them for the tick.

@AragornsGirl

I have a horrendously naff bird call clock that was my late Grandas, and it’s a pest to change. Turn hands anti-clockwise to some random time, but batteries back in, turn clockwise to correct time…and if you don’t do it right you end up with birds with the wrong call 😂
My parents have one of those. It malfunctioned about 10 years ago and the birds stopped calling but it still graces their dining room wall.

Very old bedside alarm clock. It has two buttons to press to change: fast or slow.
Slow doesn't work at all. Fast works in patches-so it will go from 3:02 to 12:46 in about 2 seconds flat, then stick and not work for the next 3 days.
So it currently is half an hour slow. After the clocks go back it will be half an hour fast. That was I don't have to alter it. Grin

Don’t have any clocks in the house, things that’s quite unusual these days. Don’t bother changing the car.

@whosaidtha

Kids body clocks. Takes over a week to change them.
Agreed. My 5 year old likes to wake the house up at 5am. Tomorrow it'll be 4am. Yay.
GalesThisMorning · 30/10/2021 23:12

Wait it's tonight? I thought it was tomorrow. Fuck. My 5 year olds gro clock turns to day at 7am and he can get up then. What time will it actually be - 6 or 8? I should know this.

I should probably just go unplug it now right?

DamnYouAutoCarRental · 30/10/2021 23:15

Current car isn't too bad, old car had a clock that only adjusted by pressing a button which moved it forwards 5 mins. Clocks going forward was just about bearable, as that was only 12 presses, but back was ridiculous, as the only way to do it was going forwards 11 hours in 5 minute increments. After the first time I didn't change it again.
Oven clock is a mystery, I normally get there in the end, but will normally manage to set a random timer along the way. It normally ends up flashing STOP or END repeatedly after I've tried to change it.

FinallyHere · 30/10/2021 23:18

At home, it's all laptops, iPhones/iPads and Alexa which all sort themselves out.

It was the job I used to most hate doing for my late mother. She had loads of clocks, four different ones in the kitchen alone.

I was pretty sure she couldn't really see the clock faces but she liked to see me change them. It was one of my late father's jobs which I was initially proud to be able to do for DM until I realised that she didn't use them as clocks so why bother ?

I miss her now but don't miss doing all those clocks quite pointlessly.

The one 10' off the floor.

I was going to say the cats

I always forget the central heating controls. Ive just gone to change the thermostat and remembered it changes itself

Fizbosshoes · 30/10/2021 23:35

DHs car. That will just be wrong for 6 months. My watch has the date on it as well but thats nearly always wrong because I can't be bothered to change it monthly but the time is always correct!

There is a clock on the microwave but we've had it about 4 years and never set that, for any time of the year!! We have enough clocks (watch/phone/alarm clock/laptop and wall clock) that it doesn't matter if there isn't one on the microwave.

My dad, at the end of his life, used to get very confused about the time and used to regularly get confused about whether it was 3am or 3pm for example....but every clock in their house was set at a random time, there was no hope for him!

Whitefire · 30/10/2021 23:43

Well it is a time of great excitement as I had a new car in May and tomorrow we will find out if it changes it self or if we have to do something. I hope not, it is a BMW and decidedly over engineered in the radio and stuff department. The Audi changes itself, so if that can do it the other one better do.

(The S-Max you had to press a button to switch between the two times)

We have so many clocks and watches in the house, I really like being able to see the time.

Billandben444 · 30/10/2021 23:45

Oven. The clock is a nightmare to work out so I bought a small wind-up timer (mainly for cakes) and a wall clock. My gran used to have an identical wind-up timer but she didn't have a top of the range oven (bloody thing).

ArchwizardTVampirebat · 31/10/2021 00:40

My dad managed his car clock like that. He was used to it, but when I was a teen and getting lifts, many was the time I panicked thinking i was early or late.

I've got a wind up timer in the shape of a cat.

@FatFredsFriedEgg

I'm confused about all the car clocks that need resetting. On every car I've had for the last 20 years I've just had to tune the radio to a channel with an RDS signal and it resets the clock automatically after a few minutes.
How the other half live! Shock

Relax...you get an extra hour in bed!Grin
GreenLunchBox · 31/10/2021 01:07

Well, you need to change the time urgently, though.

2X4B523P · 31/10/2021 01:15

As PPs, the cat, who despite being told of the upcoming change will still be demanding food at at the usual time. On a side note, it’s not 6 months each of GMT and BST, GMT is for 5 months and BST for 7 months.

GTAlogic · 31/10/2021 01:33

The clock on the wall in dc2's bedroom because it's high enough up that I can't reach it without having to climb on the cupboards next to it. There are also some decorative lights resting on the top of it so I have to hold them whilst taking the clock down and try not to drop them.

My wrist watch is a pita too because the little twisty thing kind of locks into place and always moves a few minutes forwards or backwards when I do it.

ArchwizardTVampirebat · 31/10/2021 01:56

Four minutes to go ... staying up to watch my radio-controlled clock!
