Just rewatched it all. Victoria Wood was so talented. Julie Walters such an amazing actress. Actually, the entire ensemble was brilliant. A tiny part of the writing hasn’t withstood the test of time (it’s been almost 23 years Shock), but the most - almost all - of it is just as relevant and touching and human and incisive as it was back then. It’s like a warm bath, or sitting in front of the fire when it’s snowing outside. Love it.

Wonder if The Detectorists will age in the same way. I think it might.

Watched VW 'as seen on TV' the one with the 30min situations...during our rainy summer break with my DD who is only now just old enough to watch. Its so blooming funny. Even though its 30 years old the jokes totally stand the test of time (despite topics). DD loved it. VW was an amazing talent. And having met JW last year can confirm she's a wonderfully down to earth kind woman (as I expected she would be... but you never know).
dinnerladies never gets old.

Love love love. It has everything, it's just perfection. It helped me through a terrible time in my life as it was on Gold every day at 4pm. Whatever happened to me that day, I forgot about it for the duration of the show. If Bren could survive Petula, I could get through my troubles too. Can't ever watch the Millennium episode without tears.

Still can't believe Victoria has gone.

I used to be a dinner lady in a very similar environment as a teenager and one of the things I love about dinnerladies is that it was entirely bloody accurate! The minutiae of day to day life, the characters, the insignificant things that were a bit of a nightmare when they went wrong- it was just so genuinely real. And so funny and kind with it. Not shying away from sometimes quite dark themes, but dealing with them as we do - with humour.
My favourite episode is bren's birthday when the band come over the Pennines. Makes me cry every time.

It's the perfect balance isn't it.
