I'm in Barcelona and have a flight at 10pm. Have until 6pm tonight.

Currently sat in a cafe on las ramblas. No luggage.

It's windy, rain and muggy.

Where shall I go?

Have you been to La Sagrada Familia? I would go there first, then go for lunch in one of the little cafes, and then head up to Parc Guell, to see Gaudis work there and also Dali's house (I think? If I remember correctly). If thats too far out then I would go look around Gaudi's architecture.

Indoor things - the Picasso museum is amazing or the aquarium at the bottom of Las Ramblas, if you're a footy fan, a tour of Camp Nou (Barcelona FC's ground) is interesting.

I'll keep thinking...

cherrypiepie · 30/10/2021 09:12

Thank you! Aquarium is a good shout.

Been to camp nou don't fancy schlep to guell park .

Been to Picasso museum about 12 years ago but my go again.

If it's still there, there's a cafe restaurant on the top floor of El Corte Ingles at the top of the Ramblas which has fabulous views.

OverByYer · 30/10/2021 09:17

Bus tour? Lunch in the marina?

WeAreTheHeroes · 30/10/2021 09:18

It's the Placa de Catalunya one.

SpringSparrow · 30/10/2021 09:21

We had a day in Barcelona from a cruise ship. We went to see the outside of The Sagrada Família because when we got there there was a huge queue for tickets! I would have like looking inside though so if I ever go back I would try and book a ticket in advance. We also went to the Picasso museum, amazing to see what a talented artist he was as a child. We ended up having lunch in one of the side streets on the way to the Main Street.

BlueBloodedBlue · 30/10/2021 09:23

I'm rubbish with names of restaurants sadly, I could probably find them if I was there (hang on, I'll just grab my passport and coat!)

Just googled 2 of our favourites and they both seem to be permanently closed Sad

Meandyouandyouandme · 30/10/2021 09:29

This is a great place for lunch

Institut Joan Miro, going either there or back in the cable car.

If you've not been to La Sagrada Familia then that could take all day!

Meandyouandyouandme · 30/10/2021 09:30

Sorry crap link, try this one. www.carlesabellan.com/tapas24-diputacio/

weegiemum · 30/10/2021 09:30

There's a good seafood restaurant upstairs at the back of the Boqueria market. Great for a wander too and you can get tapas inside.

GoodnightGrandma · 30/10/2021 09:32

Go on the cable car up to Montjuïc. That was my favourite thing there.

BorisKilledMyHusband · 30/10/2021 09:33

Another vote for the Miro museum

GoodnightGrandma · 30/10/2021 09:34

One of the restaurants in Plaza Real for lunch.
It’s just off Las Ramblas.

Patters4779 · 30/10/2021 09:35

If you go down to the beach you can go on the cable cars thats a good way to pass the time! X

Patters4779 · 30/10/2021 09:37

Its the port cable cars...its on Google x

Eixample · 30/10/2021 09:46

It’s not raining loads at the moment and people here hate the rain so I’d grab an umbrella and go for a walk anyway, you will have the place to yourself.
Days like this only happen 2–3 times a year but when they do I often get on a normal public bus with the kids and do a loop, there’s a lot to see.
Encants (nearest metro Glories) is under cover if you like flea markets and there are also places for lunch.

GoodnightGrandma · 30/10/2021 09:53

I found Guell Park a real disappointment, and getting there was a pain.
It’s not somewhere I’d recommend personally.

soontobeamama · 30/10/2021 09:55

If you're looking for somewhere to go for lunch or even just a coffee, try Els 4 Gats in the Gothic area - restaurant where many artists like Picasso and also Gaudi used to frequent and was where Picasso held his first public exhibition of his work. His first commission was to design the restaurant menu front cover. It's a very unique and atmospheric place to visit.

cherrypiepie · 30/10/2021 11:11

@Eixample we really have had bad luck then if it's 2-3 times per year- I'm generally happy if I can walk and occasionally sit down. It's just miserable in the rain. Don't want o get soaked as have a flight to catch.

We are Now in a cafe at the back door the cathedral in the gothic quarter. Did the boqueria and had some Ham and cheese.

Having another coffee. Heading to the born district in search of tapas. After this downpour.
