A little fall. Tell me your tripping over fresh air stories.

Just that really. I'm not injury prone at all, have stubbed my toe a couple of times in my life, nothing more exciting.

Yesterday I fell down my stairs. Not even all of them, less than half.

One minute I was walking downstairs, next I'd landed on my side with a crash. I actually got quite a fright, I was home myself and I'm shocked at how unexpectedly it happened. It could have been so much worse. By the afternoon I was giggling to myself about how I must have looked, and wished I had cameras in the house.

I'm stiff and sore today, but definitely taking even more care walking around. I normally enjoy hiking munros but this silly slip has actually made me reconsider my next climb.

My aunt, who's a physically active and never broken a bone before tripped over nothing and fell during the summer, shattering her elbow into pieces. She now has a plate and pins and will never be able to straighten her arm fully again. It's made her really reluctant to go out walking again.

One of my friends on the other hand is always falling over things, into things, off things and considers herself 'clumsy.' The last time we met she fell out of her car in the car park onto her face, with her handbag wrapped round her ankles. She just dusted herself down, reapplied her lipstick and we got on with our day 😂

I constantly trip over nothing op Blush

Always been abit clumsy but got worse the last couple of years.

I've put it down to time of the month and getting a little rounder putting balance off Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/10/2021 13:17

I don't do much of that, but I regularly choke on my own saliva for no reason at all🤔

Cocolapew · 29/10/2021 13:19

I tripped over in the house just the other night. I fell flat out, hurt my kness and hands when I put them out to save myself. I cried BlushGrin

cantgetmyheadroundit · 29/10/2021 13:20

This thread is going me make me nervous and wince-y, isn't it?

I've fallen over loads, but not for a long time, I'm well overdue, and I get really clumsy when I have my period.

I have also never broken a bone, and I'm scared it's in the post 😬

I constantly trip over nothing and choke on my own saliva!

The weirdest one was a couple of years ago at uni. I was going to the library and you have to scan your student card to get through these waist high barriers. I pulled my card out of my pocket and somehow just threw it over the barriers and into the library. I had to ask someone at the desk to let me in and she was just looking at me like “how the fuck did you do this?”

Cocolapew · 29/10/2021 13:23

I also punch myself in the face and poke myself in the eye more than I would like Grin

mylittleyumyum · 29/10/2021 13:24

Oh, my period is actually a little late - I hadn't even considered that might be a factor!

Makes sense though, my normally good parking skills are always a bit whack at this time of the month...

Definitely one of the symptoms of peri menopause. Just saying...!

When I fall I don’t put my hands out. I don’t know why, no instinct I guess.

Means I fall on my face. Hard. Once in front of a train full of people. I tried to style it out but had blood running down my face so it didn’t work. I ended up with two black eyes and lots of sideways concern as I looked battered.

Danikm151 · 29/10/2021 13:28

I’m constantly testing gravity…. It’s still working

SallyOMalley · 29/10/2021 13:29

Just yesterday. Walking slightly down hill through a gravelled car park, and turned over my ankle. Managed to right myself but then pitched forward heavily onto my hands and knees. And couldn't get up, what with facing head first down hill. Jesus, it hurt.

Thank goodness my mum and dad were there to pick me up (I'm in my early 50s, BTW!)

I've always been clumsy, I often stumble or fall over (and choke on my own saliva) and it has got worse now I'm perimenopausal.

I once fell over in the Co-op. Collapsed onto one knee, other leg stretched out backwards, head down and still grasping the trolley. It was in slow motion so must have looked quite peculiar to anyone witnessing it.

mylittleyumyum · 29/10/2021 14:01

I'm definitely of the peri-menopausal age. This is not a symptom I was expecting.

This reminds of the time my husband was 'coasting' on a trolley in Tesco. He tipped the whole thing and landed on his knees. The trolley flipped and the contents (strawberries, cream) splashed everywhere.

I'd had my back to him and heard the crash - I turned in time to see the aftermath - people staring, him on his knees, strawberries and cream all over the floor and an upside down trolley with one wheel spinning slowly.

I once full on punched myself in the eye whilst putting my bra on. Still have no idea how I managed it.

Cocolapew · 29/10/2021 14:13

My ankles go from under me too, the other day my knee went and DD2 had to catch me Hmm

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/10/2021 14:14

I once had to sneeze over my kitchen sink and chin butted the edge - bit my tongue, blood everywhere, massive bruise on chin for weeks.

Me too. Honestly, I could choke on fresh air, it's ridiculous and embarrassing.
crj123 · 29/10/2021 14:23

I'm clumsy AF and also hike Munros. The day I break my ankle is in the post but I'm not giving in till it happens. 😀
Once choked on toothpaste so badly my partner was calling am ambulance before I could cough out "no it's fine I'm just a prick"

Careful, OP, you’ll soon be approaching the age where you “have a fall” rather than simply trip. And people don’t so much snigger as start having whispered conversations about “what to do about mum” behind their hands.
gluenotsoup · 29/10/2021 14:25

I do choke on fresh air! Sometime it’s as if I have breathed in the wrong way, like if you swallow the wrong way, with a big gasping, choking, coughing fit at the end. And choke on my own saliva. 😂

Ouch! Are you very short or was it a really big sneeze that brought your head down to sink-level?
Nietzschethehiker · 29/10/2021 14:37

I could fall over whilst stood supported in a room full of pillows and damage part of me. Honestly at this point I'm considering it an actual skillset. Maybe I should add it to my CV.

Last week I managed to walk into a shelving unit that had always been there , I did not trip I did not fall , I was not tired to all appearances to DP I seemed to simply walk at it deliberately. Cut the top of head open on that. I regularly fall, drop things (I just dropped a Halloween hot chocolate bomb in a shop 3 secs after I bought it for DC and again must have appeared to basically throw it at the floor cracking it and rendering it useless).

I will quite often get up from a chair walk a step and then trip, apparently my DC have inherited my clumsiness because last week in the space of 5 minutes all three of us got up tripped over ( then I tripped again trying to save DS2) , I looked at DP who is not biologically related to any of us who just looked so over it , shook his head and I saw him officially give up on keeping any of us in one piece.

I am currently on my period, have a rotten cold and I'm very tired , I caught DP actively trying to guide me away from sharp objects earlier in case I hurt myself. I mean...he's not wrong to be fair.

I was standing in the bath having a shower - I twisted round to get the shower gel and slipped right up so both feet flew up in the air and I fell backwards out the bath - clattered my head down the towel rail and bruised the backs of my legs on the bath edge.

Without thinking, I twisted to pick up the shower gel in the exact same way the next day and did a little skedaddle, clutching at air - managed to right myself this time and immediately moved the shower gel to a more accessible spot in front of me.
