What is the strangest thing a stranger has ever said to you?

Took my almost 2 year old to the park this morning in between heavy rain showers so he could jump in puddles. When we arrived the park was empty, after about 10 minutes a women arrived with 3 children who began playing with my DS, all good and so she started to make small talk.

This is exactly how the conversation went.

Women - Awww he's a sweetheart what's his name.
Me - Thanks, his name is X. Your 3 are being so kind to include him in their game.
Her - Yeah they are great, it's good they have each other to play with. Is he an only?
Me - Yes.
Her - Oh that's sad... What happens if he dies?
Me - Errrrrrrrr (I was literally speechless)

Who the fuck thinks that's an acceptable thing to say to anyone let alone a random stranger in the park mere feet away from our kids. Confused

Anyway you may not be shocked to learn we then made a hasty retreat and that comment well and truly killed the conversation.

But it got me wondering has a stranger ever said anything even more batshit to you? Or did I meet the strangest stranger ever in our local park and should I perhaps consider moving. Grin

Shit, I bet she's fun at parties. Shock

I bumped I to a guy when I was walking my dog - we'd just moved to the area, I was about 25.

Bloke - That's a nice dog is she friendly?
Me (with a smile as my dog is snarling) - No I'm afraid not!
B - haven't seen you here before?
M - Er, no we've just moved to the area.
B - Oh, into ? Do you have a husband and children?
M (Confused) - just me and my husband, no children.
B - Is that because you can't have them?
M - ...

Fucking hell mate, what's wrong with you?!

BaronessBomburst · 29/10/2021 11:45

I'm sorry, I actually laughed at that. It's so batshit. Especially considering his age; potential siblings are still a work in progress. Grin

I would have immediately said “Really? Did you mean to say that out loud? Do you even have a filter? I think I need to go.” Exit stage left.

Honestly wish I had but I just too stunned to think of anything to say let alone anything witty.

Love the random bloke questioning your inner workings not working whilst you were mindlessly walking your poor pooch.Grin

I once had someone stop me at a theme park to tell me I was the 'whitest white person' they had ever seen Hmm

Also had someone stop me in the street once to tell politely me I had pen on my face and they thought I should know. I thanked them and got a mirror out to look, at which point they said they were just kidding... They weren't nasty about it, just really, really weird.

Also when I had my first baby and took him into work someone said he wasn't as monstrous as they'd expected (he was a big baby). No, he's not monstrous at all because he's a tiny newborn baby...

People are weird!

Two Xmases ago my self and dp were shopping and the aisles were totally packed so I decided to wait at the end of one with the trolly while dp went to get what we needed. As I was waiting this woman approached me and asked me was I alright, I replied yes that I was just waiting for my dp. She turned to her husband and said to him "oh she is irish , that explains it" and then walked away 🤣🤣 I stood there utterly confused as to what kind of reputation the Irish have for standing around busy shops with a trolly.

A friend and her DH came round with his brother, who I’dnever met, in tow. Sat them down, made tea and produced cake .

Friend to brother- aposter makes such nice cakes.
Brother- yeah but she looks like that’s the only thing she’s good at.

WTAF, I’d literally only said hello and would you liked tea to him at this point.

To be fair friend and her DH were mortified and dragged him out pdq, probably because they realised my DH was on the verge of lamping him.

We are clearly the scourge of the supermarkets. Its rare I'm left speechless but I couldn't think of what to say back to that

Maybe he should marry the women from our park. They sound like they would get on well. At least his sister was suitably embarrassed imagine having him as a sibling, I think I'd rather DS remained an only. Grin

Not as batshit as some, it was decades ago, when very short skirts were the thing, so that’s what I often wore.

Some ghastly old bag at a bus stop said, ‘I think you look awful in that! All right, I don’t even know you, but I pride myself on always speaking my mind, and I think you look awful!’

Er, thanks…..🤔
I was too polite at the time to make any barbed rejoinder about good manners!

knackeredcat · 29/10/2021 12:03

You have such evil eyes! I was in my mid teens, in the city centre, just minding my own business. But this bloke had genuine terror in his voice when he said that to me. Didn't seem drunk or anything. Confused

Must have been the eyeliner. Grin

Gotthetshirt23 · 29/10/2021 12:05

Had to take a vehicle for a quote to have some work carried out after and insurance claim.
Not my usual garage etc
After introducing myself, he started to look at the vehicle, turned around and asked "when is your due date"
I wasn't expecting .....

People with autism/aspergers are often take things very literally and also ask questions that pop into their head without always understanding the social nuances of acceptability. These stories very much sound like this. They in no way mean to cause upset.

Why would anyone ever pride themselves on being a rude cunt?! There are some corkers on here 😂

“You shouldn’t be around children wearing clothing like that.”

It was July, 30 degrees, and I was walking through my local park with the dog. I was wearing knee length shorts and a polo shirt.

I have no idea what was wrong with my clothing. I’d been on a school trip wearing the same clothes, and my work thought it was fine.

See I've known and worked with many adults who were on the spectrum and I think it's quite unusual for there to be no filter at all. By the time they are adults many people with autism have developed coping strategies to help prevent such situations occurring.

I'm not saying this women wasn't autistic but it's not always the reason and I'd say it's just as likely she was completely batshit

On a plane back from Austria, the Austrian (presumably) man sitting next to me said, “Are you English? You’ll want my cake then”, and slid his plate of cake over to me!

(I ate it)

A friend was in the airport alone with her baby in a sling and her toddler. She had a few pieces of luggage and was struggling to get the lightweight travel pushchair on top of the trolley. A woman walked by and my friend said : ' excuse me could you give me a hand?' The woman just turned and shouted 'You women and your f**king kids!'. My friend just looked at her in shock.
