Ideas for how to stop people jumping over my wall

I live in a mid terrace which has about 12 steps up to the front door. There is a little wall which is about 80cm tall that separates us from our neighbour and a lot of the time the postman/woman, delivery drivers etc jump over this wall instead of going down the stairs, then back up the neighbours stairs to deliver to them.

You might be thinking 'so what'? but our wall is damaged and the copping stones on top of it are becoming loose. We are getting a roughcaster out at some point to fix it however, we don't really want to fork out all this cash to fix it, only to have people continually jumping over it and it potentially getting damaged again over time.

Does anyone have any ideas of what we can do to deter folks from doing this (other than razor wire!!Halloween Grin ). Thanks!

@TaraR2020

Put plant pots on top of it

If you have a camera outside, next time someone knocks a bit of wall off send footage to the company as a complaint

Please don't put in a complaint about this. DH is a postie and their targets are outrageous at this point - mail and parcels have increased exponentially since March 2020 and their management is pushing them to take on more and more doors per walk. Add in the fact that posties are now expected to try both neighbours if someone isn't in to accept a parcel and they are being timed by the scanner, it's a brutal job.

Either put up a sign, put some tall plants along the wall or just ask people not to do it as you see them. I know you said the person was defensive when you asked but I'm sure most people would understand.

My father in law made a spiked fan shaped "decorative" fence and screwed it to his wall to stop the postie doing just this. They didn't have a walkway towards their door from the neighbours so it was their lawn being made into a mud track. No matter how many times they asked them not to, they carried on.

I'd go with putting a tall plant there in a pot or a long planter placed along the length with supports screwed into the wall. Any solution should involve plants because... well it's pretty for you and the neighbour.

Pop a dead rat on your side or something similarly disgusting

Loving the use of “pop” in this context! Grin

Pour olive oil all over it. Replace after rain! Film for fun Grin!

Just joking.
The plants are the best idea.
This would drive me mad.

A pit is clearly the only solution!

Kazz36 · 29/10/2021 17:54

Put a sign up "Big drop other side of wall" 😏
That might make them think twice about jumping the wall.

Thanks for the responses everyone, have had a good laugh at some of them! Have bought a couple of faux topiary trees to put in front of the wall, once decanted into bigger pots it will bring them up to about 1 metre in height.

Now to find a roughcaster to fix it (wish me luck, tradespeople round here are a nightmare for reliability...)
