Different salary on my contract to on my wageslip

Why would there be (for example) £30,000 on my contract as my salary, but £29,460 written on the 'current annual salary' field on my payslip? Anyone know if that's normal? I'll question with management but just wondered if there may be an explanation for it

Is it that is how much you have earned so far this year?

Blurryeyedbeast · 28/10/2021 04:05

I don't think it's that as it says current salary details as the header. Plus I've only been here a few months. Just seems a bit weird.

If it was the other way round (payslip more than contract) I'd say its because there's been a cost of living rise in between the contract being written and your first wage slip.

But yes, do query it with HR

Do you get paid monthly or fortnightly? If monthly, it could be because of the number of pays you get in the year versus how many work hours you actually work, so the next year your income would show higher as you have more pays.....

Did you start your job after 6 April? It might be your expected income for this tax year rather than your annual salary

JoyceTempleSavage · 28/10/2021 04:44

Could be salary sacrifice for your pension.

Blurryeyedbeast · 28/10/2021 04:52

Thank you clary that may be something to look into as I am paid monthly but on a fortnightly rota, working more hours one week and less the next..

I don't think It's pension as deductions are shown elsewhere

I had this. It was salary sacrifice pension.

Cross posted - the salary sacrifice pension comes off before anything else, making more tax effective for you. You pension contributions will still be shown elsewhere but your overall salary is slightly lower than the contractual amount.
