Court case information

Is there any way you can find out what someone is due in court for?

A friend has committed suicide and there seems to be a black out of information regarding the circumstances.

We know he was due in court but never turned up.

If it's salacious the local press will probably report on his suicide after the inquest

supadupapupascupa · 27/10/2021 21:55

We've had the funeral didn't think about an inquest.....

It's really weird. The family didn't want missing persons campaign or anything.
A lot of very upset people neatly didn't know about it all. He was a lovely guy

The inquest is usually opened and adjourned to allow for the body to be released for a funeral, then a full inquest takes place usually within the year. And yes the local press usually report on them.

I don't think you could find out what someone was facing charges for.

Thank you. Do you know if the inquest will be held where he died or where he lived?

Do you mean he didn't turn up for a Criminal Court hearing before his death?

BrilloPaddy · 27/10/2021 22:15

Usually where the person died.

supadupapupascupa · 27/10/2021 22:18

Yes. Arrested in 2019, due in court recently. Didn't attend. Now dead :-(

Sorry, pressed too soon.

Coroner cases are listed, usually by the persons name, the date that an inquest was opened and a target date for the hearing. If you know the county where the person died, it should be listed.

Thank you

Someone being charged with an offence is public record, the court would provide the information ahead of the hearing taking place but unlikely to give it out after the event (through court listings anyway), you could probably call the court and ask.

A warrant would most likely have been issued for his arrest if he failed to attend. This would have been announced in open court and is a matter of public record. However, I'm not sure how much information the Court will give you now. Sometimes local papers cover court cases including magistrates (I'm presuming it was his first time at court and therefore before the magistrates court).

Do you need to know? If he wouldn't tell you when he was alive is it necessary now he is gone?

It is terrible when some one kills themselves for everyone left behind. The family and friends are devastated and confused. But trying to stir up information won't help. If his family found out it may cause them more pain. There is obviously a reason the information hasn't been widely talked about. Please respect your friends wishes and remember him as he was in your interactions.
