Post theatre dinner with kids

Just wondering if someone could recommend where to go post theatre. We are heading to magic goes wrong at the Apollo on Shaftesbury ave and would love to take the girls 10 & 14 for dinner after instead of before if possible. Any recommendations from wise ones

What time will it finish and what kind of cuisine do you like/what’s your budget? Personally I’d get away from those really busy streets to find a meal as it’s very touristy but it’s personal preference!

Out by 10pm we think

You will be in the midst of Chinatown and there are great places there. Brassiere Zedel is also highly recommended.
Do you have any preferences re the cuisine?

Will your DC not be a bit (over)tired by that point? A pre-theatre dinner might work better if you have a time (coupled with a suitably fancy interval drink).

I wouldn't go for post theatre meal. You won't finish until 11:30- 12pm. Why not have something before? I always want to get home straight away with young children at night.

Cranncat · 27/10/2021 12:04

I'd do pre-theatre dinner -- cheaper, in that lots of restaurants in the vicinity offer early bird/pre-theatre menus, and your children will be exhausted afterwards, and grumpy.

MegCleary · 27/10/2021 12:07

Maybe a mooch through Chinatown would be good…

I was coming on to say Chinatown too! Also some lovely places around Soho, you'll have so much choice Grin

There's some great places on the side streets off the strand, I try somewhere different each time. Also not sure if they allow kids but for a pre theatre drink I love Gordon's wine bar on villiers street, it's basically a cellar, my kids love it though they are of drinking age, they have great tapas type food there

sashh · 27/10/2021 12:45

Why not do starter and main before theatre and then ice cream / pudding after?

Joe Allen's is a classic post-theatre destination, an American restaurant filled with theatreland memorabilia and signed photos of stars who have eaten there:

J.Sheekey (fish) is another classic with a post theatre menu, as is The Ivy:

Brasserie Zedel (French) is good too but it is a bit more of an adult drinking venue late at night than a family one. They have a cabaret venue, Crazy Coqs, next to the dining room that often has burlesque nights, and a cocktail bar. They all share a foyer and loos.

Chinatown is a good call.

At 10, mine would have been more impressed by a insanely expensive for fast food late night burger at Shake Shack or Five Guys Grin

Thanks for the tips

Dumplings legend before the show

NalPolishRemover · 27/10/2021 16:53

I think it sounds fab & at 10 & 14 your dc are old enough to really enjoy the thrill of a late night grown up dinner

Hope you all have a great time

JumperandJacket · 27/10/2021 18:39

The Ivy is my favourite place for post-theatre. I’ve taken children there many times and they love it.

Ended up at Gerrards corner restaurant, ordered a pile of Chinese starters, munched and toddled back to hotel
