Is everyone else's DC ill all of the time at the moment?

I have two dc, 4 and 18 months. They are ALWAYS poorly. Every week it's a new cold, or cough, or tummy bug, or ear infection. It's been the same since the start of Sept when they started childcare with a childminder. I work in a school, but my husband wfh. He has had one or both of the kids with him every week since sept for at least a few days.

Is anyone else finding the same thing?

6 and 2 here and yes pretty much the 2 year old all the time

DockOTheBay · 27/10/2021 07:30

Yep mine are the same age and have had non stop colds since September when older one started school

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 27/10/2021 07:33

Normal at that age I think.

Normal when they start childcare, or school. When it was just a cold we sent ds in with calpol (with prescription label) for the nursery to give him. Not sure if nurseries are accepting dc with any symptoms now.

Blackmagicqueen · 27/10/2021 07:41

4 and 2 and it seems back to back viruses atm.

blink18two · 27/10/2021 07:42

Yes!!! Every week.

I'm pregnant so I'm catching everything from him too.

Glad to hear others are also experiencing the same, I'd be worried otherwise.

Mrsweasleysclock · 27/10/2021 07:49

2 dc 5 & 7. They've been ill since school started in September. Always a sniffle, cough, asthma playing up, tummy ache. Always something.

DriftGames · 27/10/2021 07:51

2yo always ill at the moment, which means I am too !

Flowerflumps · 27/10/2021 07:55

Yes! Colds, sickness bugs and other nasty illnesses constantly since September

loveautumncolors · 27/10/2021 08:09

I am feeling the same with my 2 year old . He started nursery in September. one week he feels good and then poorly again. Its temp , cold ,cough etc .He has lost lot of weight , eyes look sunken . Took him to doctors twice , just been said its viral infection . Calpol and Ibuprofen most of the time.
I am worried about his eating situation. I really hope this will pass and he will feel better soon.

Very normal as they build up their immune system. Absolutely exhausting though. I remember it well.

Fairunibutterfly · 27/10/2021 08:15

Same here. Mine are 5 and 7. We’ve had a good few weeks but it still feels constant.

Rememberallball · 27/10/2021 08:31

Yes, every single week. DTs are 2y2m and started 2 days a week at nursery 8 weeks ago; if they’ve been 6 times over those 8 weeks then it would be a miracle!! One twin gets a temperature of 39-40c almost weekly so they both miss at least 1 day and we’ve been at the GP’s about his chest (wheeze, rapid breathing, cough). It’s so regular now I’ve given up getting him tested for Covid as it’s always negative. He’s even ended up in hospital twice in those 8 weeks.

TomRipley · 27/10/2021 08:41

My 16 month old lockdown baby has had one cold after another so yes, same here.

Pretty sure he has covid at the moment too as I have it but it really is impossible to test him.
We're glued at the hip so we're both isolating anyway.

I definitely think it's down to the lack of exposure in his first year.

Dollywilde · 27/10/2021 08:46

Yep - my 15 month old started nursery 3 months ago and has had constant bugs ever since. I’m pregnant as well and catching everything she passes on! Luckily nursery are pretty pragmatic about runny noses (it’s just temperatures and coughs they worry about for obvious reasons) but oh what I wouldn’t give to just be snot free for a week!

feb2022 · 27/10/2021 08:52

Yep my nearly 2&3 year olds have had back to back illnesses from September, I'm pregnant too so it's just ruthlessly exhausting at the moment
It's the whining... CONSTANT WHINING!... I wish wine was an option 😅

Honestly 16 month olds are always ill, regardless of the pandemic! It's normal, but shit
Twinmumwithtoddler · 27/10/2021 11:18

Yes it’s awful. I’m so worried to be honest.

My 3 month old baby girl had bronc when she was 2 weeks old, we were in the hospital for a week. She’s never really recovered and snorts, and can’t breathe well through her nose. She seems to have got another cold too and it’s heartbreaking. I had to push for referral to ETN but we are still waiting. We took her to a & e the other week before I was so scared it was all happening again.

I hate this.

mooseyem · 27/10/2021 11:41

Yup, same here. 5 year old is back at school and 3.5yr old started nursery school last month. What bugs me about it all is the pressure from the doctors to give the 3.5yr old her flu spray and her mmr jab but she has to be well for both and they both take 2 weeks to get over. Not a chance at the minute with the amount of green crap coming out of their EYES!!!

Crunchymum · 27/10/2021 11:42

My 9yo has been unscathed but so far the 6yo has had a tummy bug and then a few weeks later a cough (negative PCR) and missed 4 days in total.

The 3yo has just started preschool - she did a year in a different nursery so this isn't her first exposure - and she has had a different tummy bug and hand, foot and mouth. She's missed two of six weeks Shock

Hemingwayscats · 27/10/2021 13:07

Yup. Totally normal at that age, their immune systems are still growing and they’re suddenly thrown into childcare/school settings so exposed to many bugs. It’s also just normal at this time of year anyway, my DC tend to have back to back colds from
September-March.

Buddyhobbs · 27/10/2021 13:53

Yes my 8yo has been. My 2yo has escaped it all.
I am exhausted from it all.

feb2022 · 27/10/2021 14:05

@Buddyhobbs it's bloody hard work isn't it!
I don't think I've had a full nights sleep in over 2 weeks

RedElephants · 27/10/2021 14:18

In my experience the snotty noses, coughs and colds didn't really stop till they were 7ish, as they were still building their immune systems.
And with covid19, most young children haven't had much of a chance to start building this up, as they were all in Lock down for quite a few months.

Justgivemewine · 27/10/2021 14:24

It’s not just the little ones.

Teenage ds has been off school ill more often than he’s been in since September.
