We've got some and I have no idea how to use them. Any quick uses?

In smoothies. I like mine with soy milk, spinach, a banana and some mango. Delicious and filling.

Overnight oats

Avarua · 27/10/2021 00:04

Soak them in espresso until they get soft. Perfect breakfast.

Sprinkled over cauliflower/vegetable cheese with breadcrumbs, cheese and other seeds before grilling.

In porridge

In cakes or cookies

Yy and overnight oats:
1/2 cup oats
1 tsp chia seeds
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of pysillium if you have it
Soaked overnight in oat milk or almond milk or Greek yoghurt

YUM

I sprinkle them on salads - the way you would poppyseeds or toasted sunflower seeds. Also add to granola or muesli (or any cereal, really) or pancake mix. There are loads of chia pudding recipes out there too - some even no-cook.

They are very high in fibre and will swell when added to a liquid. They aren't like a sesame seed you could eat raw though, and I think they needed a liquid before you eat them. Due to the high fibre content, I wouldn't go overboard at first.

  • Just add to yoghurt or sprinkle on breakfast cereals
Hairyfriend · 27/10/2021 00:12

@Lammysaurus- cross post. I never realised you could actually eat them 'raw'. I've only had them mixed with liquid. I will try them 'raw' in a salad next time- thanks.

I just sprinkle over my greek yoghurt or pop in a smoothie

needtogetfit21 · 27/10/2021 05:21

Thanks all!

Added to bolognaise and homemade curries

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 27/10/2021 06:01

In yoghurt, muffins and on a banana (like a dip!). I pretty much put them in anything and everything (except porridge funnily enough).

PaperMonster · 27/10/2021 07:17

Mix cocoa and chia seeds into Greek yoghurt or coconut milk and leave overnight for a chocolate pudding.

Wishimaywishimight · 27/10/2021 09:25

I sprinkle on breakfast cereal and in salads.

How much would you add, 1 teaspoon?

one teaspoon per person.

MissyB1 · 27/10/2021 10:53

On my porridge every single day. Or in soups, stews, smoothies.

Oooh I need to try this.
QuackQuackQuacko · 27/10/2021 10:55

Rice cake with philly, chia seeds on top! Yummy

purplesequins · 27/10/2021 10:58

just be aware that if you use them unsoaked they can make you very constipated.

Ermm got to say I’m not great with measurements! I generally just do a light scattering over the top of the food in the pan and then mix in. Probably a a good couple of spoonfuls.
