Splint causing numbness

KG92 · 26/10/2021 21:51

I went to A&E yesterday with thumb and wrist pain. No numbness or pins and needles.

They suspect a possible scaphoid fracture or De Quervain's tenosynovitis.

Have an MRI in a weeks time to confirm either diagnosis.

Since wearing the splint for 24 I have complete numbness in my thumb and base of thumb.

Anyone else experience this?

I have quervains. I find my the numbness occurs when the splint is closed too tightly. Hope you feel better soon

I wore one for 3 years after a subluxation that was eventually operated on, it could easily just be due to being fastened too tight so try fractionally loosening each strap it normally only needs micro adjustments

Thanks for the replies.

I’ve it loosened now ever so slightly. Hopefully I’ll regain the feeling in it soon. 🤞🏼

Never had any issues with it before, from my own research it looks like a long road ahead.

A too tight splint can cause altered sensation. Loosen the thumb & wrist velcro straps & make sure the other straps aren't too tight.
