Question about front teeth

DD(16) is really unhappy about her two front teeth. They protrude down about 4mm below the rest of her tooth line and it's only now she's told me (in tears) that she feels very self conscious.

We attend every dental checkup - she's never had a filling and she takes care with tooth hygiene. The dentist has never flagged anything up. They don't protrude outwards but they are very obviously longer than others.

A brief Google brings me to Invisalign - has anyone ever heard of this for 'shortening' teeth? I'd love to help her. I grew up with awful teeth and I don't want her feeling embarrassed all the time.

If it's just the length of those 2, and the rest are all in place, the dentist could probably file them down, shouldn't need Invisalign or other braces unless it's more a case that the others need pulling down.

Invisalign is more about changing the position of teeth. Agree with PP if it's just the length a dentist should be able to file them down.

Probably not an NHS thing so have to go private but worth asking about.

Poor thing. Nothing worse than feeling self conscious

Don’t file them. The thickest tooth enamel can be is 2.5mm. There is no way they can file off 4mm. Even a bit of filing removes layers of the protective tooth enamel and will long term result in premature tooth staining and decay, which is the last thing you want for two front teeth.

I would see an orthodontist and see if anything safe can be done. It might be she has a poor bite and by moving the teeth surround the front teeth can even things out.

Thanks everyone.
I'll speak to our dentist about an appointment. Failing that, there's a private practice nearby.

Aw that's a shame she feels that way, especially as longer front teeth are generally considered rather attractive! I have longer front teeth, and my dentist commented that other people have work done to achieve a similar look!

I remember being teased about my big lips when I was a teen... Is it possible she's been the target of some jealousy-based comments?

She might be able to have composite bonding to the surrounding teeth to help alter the overall appearance? Worth checking with your dentist or a specialist

Kristen Stewart and Adriene (of Yoga fame) are two examples of people with beautiful long getting teeth.
