Just that really for DSD 24. I've already got her a cookery book. Was thinking of a subscription box but open to any other ideas, apart from another book as she's not really a reader.

As she’s into crafts, perhaps some Japanese hand made paper, or an origami kit?

Duckdown · 26/10/2021 07:59

These are brilliant ideas. My DD also loves Japanese culture. Many thanks for all the great links and ideas.

Japan House on Kensington High Street is worth a visit if you’re in/near London. Their gift shop has some lovely things (some are very expensive Japanese crafts, but there are some nice more affordable bits too). It also works for a nice themed day out along with the Japan rooms at the V & A.

Duckdown - I’m not sure how old your DD is, but many of the Japanese series on Viki have significant sexual content. They are way more racy than the Korean stuff. I’d advise caution if she’s a young teen & you were thinking of a subscription.

Great thread.
If you wanted to make up a food box all our local Chinese grocers have Korean and Japanese sections - lots of sweets with fantastic packaging, teas, ramen etc, and Japanese tableware and chopsticks.

I've booked lunch at the Japanese centre in Kensington next week as a surprise for DD...£££

For those of you who suggested skincare, what do you recommend? DSD is a veterinary nurse so not tested on animal is particularly important.

Can she speak either language? If not, would a course to start with the basics be of interest?

Hemingwayscats · 26/10/2021 10:58

My DD’s are much younger but also massively into Japanese and Korean culture. They love anime so I buy them lots of books, clothes and other merch based on their favourite shows. Also Japanese sweets which they love, I get them from a UK based store called Jessica’s sweets.

There's some decent ramen kits out there, they're simple to cook

My carer is Japan obsessed, he's flying out for his 4th or 5th visit later this year.

I got him a 'preppy' pen, they are Japanese fountain pens, they are really nice to write with (better than my cross pen!) they come in a variety of colours and patterns and you can get ink in various colours
