Agoraphobia/claustrophobia- cruise?

Hi

I've not managed to fly for over 10 years having had a panic attack on my last flight. I don't like trains either.

My issue is a fear of being unable to escape, or causing a scene about wanting to be able to escape.

We are wanting to go abroad next year end I'm wondering about a cruise? Has anyone who can't fly managed to cruise comfortably before? We are thinking of doing a short haul as a tester, with one full day at sea

Thanks

I think it depends on the room you get. An inside cabin with no window? No. A balcony room, yes!

Ships have lots of outdoor and open air space if that would help you.

If we do it we'll push the boat out (pardon the pun Grin) and get a suite with a balcony.

I'm wondering if I can ask the doc for something as a just in case, if I feel really jittery

My Dad hates flying so loves a cruise.

As long as you get one of the bigger rooms higher up on the boat and with a window or balcony you should be fine. The thought of an inside cabin fills me with utter dread and I'm not claustrophobic.

I’ve done both comfortably with a Citalopram prescription. My GP has also been good with the occasional 3 pill prescription for Xanax to get you on the plane.

I have cruised and love it. I don't have the anxiety that you do as I don't mind flying however my best friend does. She will not fly at all and loves a cruise.

A balcony room will be more than adequate for you. The suites are super expensive- you could get 2 cruises for the same cost!

I big part od my anxiety is needing an escape route. I am fine with cruising - before you leave you have to attend the muster point for the safety briefing which covers everything and is basically the escape route planned for you!

I have anxiety around flying, heights and claustrophobia and was worried about cruising. I have been on 2 now and I was fine. I was a little insecure when we left land as that was my "safety" zone, but the boat is so big I was able to make the boat be my "safety" in my mind instead. I didn't feel at all claustrophobic with all the lovely open decks, and yes I had a balcony suite too. I was worried about the heights too, but for some reason it didn't bother me other than the glass elevators which I had to avoid!

Oh brilliant! We've stuck to UK holidays for years as I just haven't been able to fly since my panic attack, so this could be amazing

Thanks so much for your responses
