Where to live in Herts/Essex?!

Hello,

Need desperate help, going mad with the breadth of options!

• Budget: £450k
• House not flat
• Don't want a village, want a "naice" town or city with a choice of restaurants etc. Good walks nearby.
• Needs to be commutable to North London.

No children yet so not worried about schools.

DP and I liked Berkhamsted when we visited, looking for something with a similar feel. We appreciate that our budget isn't the highest.

Where would you suggest?

Wow, so mainly Hertfordshire recommendations over Essex! Any reason for this?

Essex is a horror to get back into London and VERY expensive to do so. VERY!!!!

DP is keen on Chelmsford as it is closer to his parents in Norfolk

Debden, Loughton, epping..

Not all of Essex is a horror to get into London from, nor is it expensive. It’s a big county!

Shenfield is 20mins from Liv St for example.

Once you are in the upper V part of HERTS Norfolk isn't so far away. We lived near B'ps Stortfird and used to pop up to north Norfolk frequently to visit my grandmother-in-law.

Herts is also that bit easier if you want to travel elsewhere in the country.

My parents live in Essex and we're in Hertfordshire. Essex is far more difficult to commute in to London.

With your budget I'd definitely look at Bishop's Stortford, Stanstead, Sawbridgeworth and Elsenham.
