To be so angry re: GP surgery

3 year old up all night in agony with earache, calpol and nurofen not doing much. Can only call GP surgery between 8-9 to be added to a call back list. Finally got through, give DS details to be told I can’t proceed any further because DS ‘is inactive and is deregistered.’ What does that even mean? Receptionist couldn’t help me, said to call back and speak to the admin team after 9.30.

I am so upset and angry. This is not the first time they have messed up. When DS was little I hadn’t heard anything about his 12 month immunisations so called up to be told the same thing that he was no longer a patient at the surgery and had moved on to another area?!! They apologised profusely, blamed it on a system error and now, here we are again.

I have never complained about anything in my life but this time I will and will be changing GP surgery in due course but more importantly, what do I do about poor DS? I think it’s an ear infection and don’t know how I will be able to get to speak to someone today after all this mess.

@Sadiequeenofscots

Yes I wasn’t suggesting she go to A&E this morning - only if not seen.

Here in Scotland if we call 111 during GP hours we are not seen. We have no minor ailments walk ins either in most areas. So it’s GP, OOH or A&E.

My point was, the OP was to call admin at 9.30 and there was no guarantee of an appointment

Here (in England) they see all under 5's on the day that you call with an issue. Is that not the same in Scotland?

Update- they have mixed DS up again with the same patient as last time who apparently has the exact same name and exact same date of birth (what are the chances of that?) in this situation I don’t know why they wouldn’t look at NHS numbers, addresses, parents’ details etc. Anyway the admin reregistered DS straightaway and when I called back on the appointment line was told no chance to speak to a doctor today and to try again tomorrow.

DS seems a lot more chirpier after he finally went to sleep for a few hours, so I’m going to keep an eye on him and try again with GP tomorrow but am also on the lookout for a new surgery as I can’t take the risk with this place again.

Thank you all for your advice.

Poor child and poor you.

Probably he has the same name as another patient who has deregistered because they either left the area or died. But making the same mistake twice is pretty awful :-(((

Yes @2bazookas that’s exactly it. The first time was understandable, but I think this is just negligence. I’m just glad DS seems much better today otherwise I was struggling to contain myself on the phone today!
