What did you do to help your hormones/mood after breastfeeding?

Hey, I finished my breastfeeding journey 10 days ago. I am not really struggling too bad with my breasts as I had tapered a lot and was barely feeding by the end but emotionally I’m a mess!

I’m so irritable and moody. I just feel so down, teary and tired and I even have spots! On my chin and jawline so totally hormone related.

How long did this last for you? Do you have a tips to help ease it or balance my hormones again?

Not having that oxytocin in the evenings (DS only fed in the evenings for the last 6 months) makes them the most depressing. Did anyone else find that?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding is a depletion of your nutrient stores, particularly omega 3's because the baby basically plunders your brain's store of these and this is thought to contribute to the low mood many women feel after birth and breastfeeding. I wonder if taking fish oil might help.

Daylight and exercise (which I know is a lot harder at this time of year), going out for a nice walk always seems to lift my mood, even if it is not down in the first place. I tapered off gradually so I did not feel it too hard, but I found just a good cuddle with the little one was lovely as well.

I really thought I had post natal depression, the come down from BF was so bad when I stopped. I wish it would be talked about more.

The only thing that helped me was time. Best of luck, it’s awful

Thank you all, yeah I guess it’s just making sure my Nutruition is good to replenish myself and replacing the oxytocin I got from breast feeding with other things!

My son is 3 so it’s been a long time!

The oxytocin drop is real.

The only thing I found that helped was time. It was rough for a few weeks, but then got better.
