Right I need this chocolate and I need you to find the modern equivalent of it

Remember the Quality Street cracknell? They got rid of it years ago

Now I want something like it - either exactly like it or (maybe even better) bits of cracknell through an individual chocolate

One of you will know what I want Grin

Daim block chocolate bar ?

budgiegirl · 24/10/2021 19:04

Butterfingers are quite similar, as far as I remember. They're imported from USA, but you can get them in Sainsburys for about £1.50 - they're much bigger than a Quality Street cracknell though.

Crackletranton · 24/10/2021 19:08

I second Butterfingers - you can probably get them on Amazon if there aren't any in your Sainsbury's.

LaurieFairyCake · 24/10/2021 20:36

I tried Butterfingers a few weeks ago from the American shop and it's the thing that made me want to find something even better - it's ok but the chocolate isn't that good quality and the cracknell needs to be harder ?

And daim is nice but is caramel not cracknel- which I didn't know I was spelling wrong until just now

Butterfinger (which I grew up on) is not cracknell. You mean a caramel flavoured cracknell not the wonderful mint cracknell?
Never ever did I think I would type cracknell so often !

LaurieFairyCake · 24/10/2021 20:44

Definitely caramel flavoured, not mint

Oh the red foil one.
Was lush. The bits all stuck on your teeth.
Mint Cracknell was my Saturday night treat from the sweet shop when I was little.

The Quality Street cracknel was peanut.
SpookyPumpkinPants · 24/10/2021 20:48

Would either of them get you closer if you put them in the fridge?

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 24/10/2021 20:48

Oh I know what you mean...my teeth are hurting just thinking about it!

VenusClapTrap · 24/10/2021 20:53

Oh I loved that one. Dime bars are the closest I’ve found, sorry.

AlbertBridge · 24/10/2021 20:57

I wonder if you can make it? Sweets aren't half as tricky to make as you'd expect..

Geamhradh · 24/10/2021 21:06

It was called Hazelnut Cracknell apparently (the red one) replaced in later years by the now also defunct Peanut Cracknell.
(I've gone down an internet rabbit hole of 1970s confectionery Grin)

Fangdango · 24/10/2021 21:11

A bit like this? Out of stock at the moment but isn't everything ...

Fangdango · 24/10/2021 21:14

Also here - but is the peanut a bit too well defined? Think the QS tasted more ... gritty? And lush Smile

No idea at all, but randomly I got talking to this lovely old fella today (and I swear this is gospel and not some marketing plant) and he was telling me about his son, who was furloughed during lockdown and who has now won a competition to find the best chocolatier inEngland ( or something like that, I had wine 😂😂). Anyway, my point was, during this conversation he mentioned he was doing really well online, and one reason is because he can make literally anything you ask for by hand. Might be worth enquiring? Won’t share it on here in case anyone thinks I’m advertising, though don’t know him from Adam, but can send you the website name I asked him for if you want to PM me…

LaurieFairyCake · 24/10/2021 21:18

Yes I remember it as hazelnut- which is the flavour of praline (my absolutely favourite flavour)

Back when Thornton's were good they did a crunchy praline - the one they have now tastes like dogs balls

LubaLuca · 24/10/2021 21:27

I liked the cracknell too, it was sort of flakey and crumbly, not solid like Dime and peanut brittle.

CommanderBurnham · 24/10/2021 21:40

Monty bojangles scrumptiously nutty?

Fangdango · 24/10/2021 21:44

No chocolate but maybe you could combine with some ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/10/2021 21:45

the one they have now tastes like dogs balls

It needs to be asked - how d'you know what the dog's balls taste like ?

longtompot · 24/10/2021 21:52

They were my favourites and I was gutted when they were removed. They do not know their market at all. Those peanut crackle sweets are pretty amazing and I would forgo the chocolate coating just to have the crunchy middle.

AntsDeck · 24/10/2021 22:02

What about buying some of those peanut sweets that are shaped like the real ones that come in a shell, which you split open and there are 2 peanuts inside and then coating them in chocolate? Just an idea Smile

tuvtuvs · 29/12/2022 14:57

have u found a better or just as gud version of the old QS red wrapper hazelnut cracknell?? plse plse tell me lol🙂
