How do you prove ownership of a house if you have paid off your mortgage?

Itsjustnotcricketisit · 24/10/2021 17:32

We are looking at adopting a dog, and one of the criteria is proving eithr renting or ownership of the house.

We have paid our mortgage off so can’t show any mortgage payments.
Is there any other way to prove our house is ours?
TIA 💐💐 🐶

Land registry?

GiantKitten · 24/10/2021 17:34

Yes, Land Registry. You pay £3 and get an online confirmation of ownership (I did it in order to guarantee a DC’s rent payments)

Wombat49 · 24/10/2021 17:34

You should have the land registry entry & plan but I think this is a bit of a cheeky requirement.

Proof of address should be enough.

Driver's licence?

Do you have a letter confirming the last payment to pay off your mortgage? Maybe along with a recent bank statement or similar to prove you still live there

Itsjustnotcricketisit · 24/10/2021 17:36

@mynameiscalypso

Land registry?
Oh yes. I think ours is at our solicitors…I can ask them for a copy. Thanks.

They do home visits, don't they? If they can see where you live, it's none of their sodding business who owns it. Bloody cheek.

Dillydollydingdong · 24/10/2021 17:36

Show them the deeds

I know what you mean. It was to do with whether or not you are renting and the tenancy agreement about landlords not allowing pets.

Surely lots of landlords don't allow pets? A charity wouldn't want to re-home an animal only to have it returned because the LL found out that the lease was being breached.
rainbowunicorn · 24/10/2021 17:40

It is no wonder that people end up not adopting animals. The ridiculous hops ypu ahve to jump through.

DaisyNGO · 24/10/2021 17:40

Why is everything such a mad mission these days?

Proof of address should be enough, they don't mind if you're renting or if you own.

Yes they do, so maybe they’ll see that we do through that. I love your username, it’s a greyhound that we are looking for 😍😍

God some organisations really over reach!

I had to do this to adopt a Child, but heavens!

Oh, that's a point, Seeline.
I suppose they have to allow for the idiots

Ah, best of luck Grin. I've got two!

Saucery · 24/10/2021 17:43

Unfortunately, some people would lie or lie by omission and the dog would potentially end up bounced back to the Rescue.

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/10/2021 17:43

Both rescues.

😍😍 That’s amazing, can’t wait honestly. Fantastic dogs aren’t they?

Our mortgage lender sent us the Deeds once it was paid off, they dont need them anymore. Have you got your electoral roll paperwork, we didnt need to prove ownership

SirGawain · 24/10/2021 18:11

Our solicitor holds the full deeds but the property is also registered with the Land Registry and you can get an uncertified copy for a few pounds. for some legal purposes you may need a certified copy which costs more.

Muttly · 24/10/2021 18:13

I have a greyhound too. We have him 6ish months love him. Best of luck OP, they are a fab breed. Xx
