Anyone want to help me out with my random bruise?

Three or four times a year, I get this random bruise on the bridge of my nose. Usually, I wake up with it but occasionally, like tonight, I see myself in the mirror and realise it’s appeared despite not being there four hours earlier.

The photo is a bit misleading as it looks like a spot, but it’s not, it’s a bruise. The skin isn’t raised or broken. It doesn’t hurt, it’s not itchy. It’s not an insect bite.
It always appears in the exact same location.

I don’t wear glasses, wasn’t lying down, didn’t have anything near my face. I spent most of the evening sitting on the sofa watching tv and scrolling through MN. Nobody has touched my face, I haven’t had a child on my lap who inadvertently head-butted me or anything like that. I don’t keep a flock of nose-nipping pedigree geese.

Does anyone else get this? Or can you give an educated guess as it what’s causing it?

Anyone want to help me out with my random bruise?

Have you got long/fake nails? I woke up with a black yell eye once and bruises all up my legs. Turns out it was from my gel nails when I couldn’t fee the force with with I was rubbing my eye or scratching my legs in my sleep.

Sufficed to say, once they came off I didn’t replace them! That’s my only explanation I can offer you!!

mysterious!

the only thing I can think of is some sort of internal pressure - like crying or blowing your nose too hard?
I have ended up with hundreds of red pin prick marks (lall around my eyes, nose, neck and even forehead) a few times after crying too hard.
They were the same dark red colour, albeit really tiny (but numerous).

If you did nothing of a sort then no idea.
Maybe a dermatologist could help figure it out?

Do you have a ring that you may press against that part of your face when sleeping?

My first thought is a type of skin cancer because it comes and goes and is on your face. There's a type that presents like a bruise. May be worth checking it out and seeing a dermatologist?

I have something similar which appears overnight slightly higher up OP. I've no idea what it is, but it's been happening for years.

Thanks all.

Just to answer some questions-

Nails are natural and trimmed.

I haven’t been wearing any rings lately (plus the bruise appeared last night after a day of being up and about, I hadn’t been in bed before it appeared).

Don’t think I was rubbing my eyes, but can’t remember not rubbing my eyes IYKWIM.

Not sure if skin cancer would disappear like that?

I’ve mentioned it to the GP before and he was baffled but said to come in when it next appears. Problem is that it disappears before I can get an appointment!

If you Google this it comes up with lots of people that get similar, there’s a lot of people that seem to say it’s after they’ve been stressed. I’ve no idea why that would do this but thought it was interesting that it’s not uncommon!

have you done a test to check if it's a blanching or non-blanching skin issue?

You need to apply some pressure (flat base of an empty glass is ideal) - if it fades or turns white it's blanching, so it's a surface skin issue.
if it stays red /doesn't fade it's a non-blanching rash or lesio, that means there's bleeding below the surface of the skin.
(that's the one parents are taught to be vigilant about if kids have them along with other symptoms as it is closely associated with meningitis & septicaemia).

so test it and then you'll be one step closer to figuring it out

My 6 year old has one on his forehead, sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not.
I presumed it was like a birthmark.
