Any candle makers about? I have a question about wicks...

I was bought a candle on my last birthday that arrived broken. I've melted it down & retrieved the wick so I can use it now the replacement's used up but, how do I get the wick to stay put in the bottom of the jar?

I thought a glue dot maybe or glue gun glue but suspect they'd melt Confused. Any ideas how to get it to stay put would be appreciated.

Tia :)

I’ve watched a few candle makers on TikTok. I’ve seen them do a couple of things. if the wicks are in the metal discs they use a dot of glue, if they don’t have the metal then they have them suspended over the jar on a rod going into the wax.

Dot of hot wax

The wick from the one that arrived with a broken jar has a little metal disc on it.

@Theunamedcat just glue gun glue?

you would usually thread the wick through the hole in the bottom of the candle mold before filling it with the wax and then tie the other end of the wick to something like a stick to keep it outside the other end while the wax is setting

Hmm, I don't have a mold for it, with a hole in the bottom. Just the jar from the used up one.

I thought this would be a simple "job" but maybe not after all!

The ones I’ve seen do just glue the metal disc to the bottom of the jar, as do neom candles. Theirs is strong glue, I have to pry it off with a knife so I can recycle the jar.

Glue gun would work though, it’s only to hold it in place whilst the wax sets.

The ones I’ve seen using silicone moulds don’t have holes in the bottom though. I clearly spend far too much time watching stuff on Tiktok.

As pp said surely a drop of wax would suffice?

I use those little glue dots that come on a sheet, and stick to the bottom of the jar/glass

I use a peg or pencil to hold the wick up and straight whilst the wax cools.
