Do you manage to shower when you're ill?

Had my booster and flu jabs yesterday.. Been feeling utterly rotten since, nauseous, achy etc.. I managed to shower this morning and I also shower before bed, but I literally just dragged myself up to my bedroom and fell onto my bed covers..
I feel terrible to not shower before bed but honestly can't bring myself too, is it unreasonable to just lay here.. I've brushed my teeth as I did that earlier.. The thought of having to get up again makes me want to throw up..
Do you manage to shower when you feel ill?

Depends how ill i feel. Love my first shower after feeling really poorly. Only happend about 3 times in my life and I'm nearly 60.

No and I’m surprised how many here force themselves to. To me one of the markers of being truly ill is not being able to shower etc. I’ve only had proper flu two or three times in my life but couldn’t have stood in the shower until after the first couple of days being really ill. Agree with others that the first shower after being really ill is one of life’s simple joys.

Depends what kind of ill.

I didn't shower for 2 weeks when I had covid bc I couldn't breathe and the steam made me really struggle.
I also won't shower if I have a fever.

If I'm vomiting, have the sqwits, or just feeling under the weather I will still shower. Even if I have to sit! I remember my DH getting in the shower with me to hold me upright so I could shower after surgery once Grin

Always, if too weak for a shower then there's a bath or even a wash.

ThatsWhatI · 23/10/2021 02:49

I've been so ill with covid I couldn't move to drink from the bottle of water next to me let alone stand up let alone shower so it really depends on how ill.

If you can shower then that's a good sign that you'll be ok that's all.

I once had gastric flu for six weeks. The first two weeks I was delirious with a fever. I have never been so unwell. Doctors were useless, so my mum nursed me at home.
After the delirious stage I just sat in the bath, and my mum washed my hair (I was 21). It was the best thing ever. I was too ill to be embarrassed. Then I went back to bed. I couldn't give a monkeys when I had last washed.

I've never been so ill that I couldn't shower so I guess I've been lucky. I showered and got dressed every day when I had Covid in August, I feel grubby if I don't and it kept me in a "routine" otherwise I'd have festered on the sofa. I wasn't very ill though.

itsutterlyshit · 23/10/2021 07:19

Yes but only because I hope it will make me feel better, which it usually does
The one and only time I had real flu I made DH help me to the bathroom and sit with me t make sure I was ok. He ended up having to dry me off and carry me back to bed it's the only time a shower made me feel worse.

I had pneumonia a few years ago and felt ill for days before I had breathing problems/chest pain on breathing. I felt so ill, I hadn't washed my hair, showered for four days. When I got to the point I knew I needed treatment, DH ran me a bath, literally helped me step in and out, dry myself and dress. Even though I wasn't up to a brief dip, pride told me it wasn't fair for doctors to have to treat someone so grotty.

If you're not up to it, give yourself some slack. Hope you feel better soon.

Mantlemoose · 23/10/2021 08:36

Good god no. Bed, fluids and paracetamol.

kowari · 23/10/2021 08:43

A shower, brushing my teeth and clean clothes always make me feel better, I've never changed my usual routine when I'm ill. Never had to 'force' myself to, I always want to.

ConfusedbyCovid · 23/10/2021 08:43

Yes… it makes me feel better. Only missed 1 day whilst in hospital with a burst appendix and feeling very ill. Made it to the shower the rest of the hospital stay, often sitting down as it was a real effort. I think it’s good to get the blood flowing to your limbs and mentally made me feel much better.

Itstheprinciple · 23/10/2021 09:36

It depends how ill I am. I might not always shower first thing in the morning if I'm ill but I usually try to at some point during the day and take whatever opportunity when I'm feeling up to it.

PaperMonster · 23/10/2021 09:54

I’m really poorly at the mo and am dragging myself into the shower as I know it will make me feel brighter.

SquarePeggyLeggy · 23/10/2021 10:05

No, a shower is essential, always. I dragged myself there as soon as my catheter came out after my c section. I nearly fainted but it was still worth it! 🤣
