Was diagnosed with this in Aug..have tried nasal spray as prescribed by GP, tried Valsalva and outovent...seems to settle for a few days and then it seems to worsen..today middle ear feel full of fluid..tried hot water bottle and lots of nose blowing but nothing seems to make a long term difference...wise mumnetters...have you any other ideas of things I can try?

Have you tried taking an antihistamine daily? It can help some people.

Urgh I have this (weird pregnancy symptom, had it with my first too). Seems worse if I don’t drink enough and am on my feet for a long time. Does having sips of water regularly help you?

Maybe try a daily antihistamine and an Otovent nasal balloon.

Do you hold your nose when blowing?

That’s the recommended way for clearing them on a plane (ex cabin crew here). Almost always works. Hold nose, blow hard.

Apologies if you’ve tried that already.

Have you tried the epley manoeuvre?

crazycadetmum · 22/10/2021 13:12

I’ve tired to otovent..but will give the antihistamine a go..

Stroking the Eustachian tube from behind the ear towards the jaw line? Warm compresses? Staying well hydrated and decongestants.
It’s often a sign of allergies.

I had this for badly for years (small tubes) until I got an asthma inhaler. Hardly ever have now.
