How important is it to have some cash in the house these days?

Boring post sorry.

I've always kept £100 cash in the house for emergencies. I had to spend most of it yesterday and now I'm wondering if I should bother replacing it, as it seems that cash is almost being phased out these days. Even tradespeople usually carry a card machine now.

To be honest, it's more that Christmas is coming up and I could do without withdrawing money from my account! But I feel a bit nervous about not having an emergency pot. Maybe I could just keep it to £40 or £50. What do other people do?

I always have cash in my purse.. Usually keep £10-50 depending on how much I've spent .
When DS was at school it.wws essential for spending on school stuff like cake sales, raffles, dress up day, red nose Day etc. I also have a random coin tin that I chuck coins in when there are too many in my purse or if I find them when cleaning. It is useful for coins if I need them for parking.

My window cleaner and hose cleaner prefer cash.

@PiesNotGuys

Several shops, cafes etc we frequent are cash only.

Several are card only.

I need to have both

Yes this as well.

Always keep some cash at home and always carry some too, even if it's only the emergency tenner in my phone case and some small change in the car for parking. I withdraw £100 every couple of months or so. Need it when I get together with friends to order takeaway (local one is cash on delivery only) or if we share a bottle of wine in the pub. DCs borrow it if we are out somewhere and they've forgotten their card. Still put a £20 note in a birthday card sometimes.

I've got my card details/contactless on my phone. I'm not even sure where my purse is in the house!

No cash here. DH has some - mainly for the cleaner.

Dd has the most from birthdays.

@blackheartsgirl

I never used to but I couldn't use my card recently and was stuffed so now I keep a little bit just in case.

I use cash all the time as I budget a different way now as I was spending all the time on my card and skint!

Do you do cash envelopes? I've started this earlier this year. Saved a fortune.
