No electricity since 03.30 a.m

We had a power cut at 03.30 this morning and still don’t have electricity. UK power network keeps pushing back the time power will be restored. They are now estimating 9.30 p.m.

My DS is at home with Covid which means we are all self isolating and can’t even leave the house to get a hot drink.

We are all freezing. DH and I both working from home but obviously without WiFi couldn’t do our jobs. My manager made me take today as annual leave.

I am so so angry. DS is really suffering with Covid & I couldn’t even make him a hot drink or meal. It’s getting colder even with all the blankets we have. I rang UK power network and asked about emergency generator they said no we just have to wait it out.

Can’t face more hours of sitting in the cold with no idea when power will come back on. All our phones are about to die as we haven’t been able to charge them so can’t even watch anything on phone.

Thoroughly fed up.

I work for one of the utilities you really have no idea of the complexity of issues in getting you back on line .

Funny enough when we reconnect people it somehow tends to be the ones with shit attitudes and been out giving us grief that seem to be the last to get back on line .

Hi hope you have power soon , as others have said if your double jabbed you can go out . If you have someone close by ask them to fill a flask for you , maybe soup or something .

Oh and some houses are cold. My mum's house is freezing in August. sMy flat keeps reasonably warm all year with little need for heating apart from the coldest months.

It's shit but at least it's not Xmas and boxing day like we had one year, now that was a pisser!!

For next time:
power bank: they are various prices on Amazon and Asda had some little ones, that did not keep much charge but were light enough for a handbag/pocket. Keep them charged up.

reusable hand warmers. from amazon. the ones where you press a disc and a reaction happens that makes it warm, then you boil them up to recharge them once power is back on

a flask or two you can take round to a neighbour and ask for hot water. (cultivate good relationships with neighbours)

(disposable) bbq for emergency cooking, and a couple of camping pans. or a camping stove and fuel, but store in garage/shed.

some form of lighting: eg torch and batteries, wind up or solar lantern, head torch.

Ask your neighbours for help - especially if you're double jabbed in which case you can go out.

This happened locally one Christmas and they had no power for 2 days. Hope yours is back soon.

Yeah, definitely cold where I am and I don't feel the cold easily. I have thick jumper and socks and just turned the heating on and trying to remember where the hit water bottle is for later on!

I’m so sorry, this sounds just awful Sad I really hate the cold and yes it is cold right now especially in the evenings! I also think its shit of your manager to make you take AL.

Fingers crossed it’s sorted soon.

Ours is set to come on evenings only. It hasn’t cut in for the last three days.

I don’t think it helps for people to be mean. Sometimes you just want to moan. Also even if they aren’t double jabbed they could order from Uber Eats.

Some very unkind comments. I hope all the posters who have been frankly quite cruel got some sort of pleasure out of kicking someone when they’re down.

I work from home. Today I couldn’t through no fault of my own. My boss was not understanding and made me take a precious days leave. DH also couldn’t work and as a result lost a days pay. I’m now worried about that loss of money.

DS has Covid, me and DH have been jabbed but we both have colds from hell so not feeling great. I’m worried about DS he’s very unwell and our house is freezing. We have no heating and where we live is very cold!

I’m worried about work tomorrow if there’s no power I don’t know what we’ll do in terms of losing money/taking time off.

So it’s not just about not being able to watch TV and make a tea it’s the worry about work and a poorly child.

And I’m so sorry that unlike everyone else I don’t have a camping stove or a battery pack. Silly me not to realise that one day I’d have no power for over 24 hours!

The website says they’re still conducting “investigation” so it looks like a long cold night.

I assume its measuring the outside temperature she just sent a pic of her car screen it said temp -1c

It’s pain especially when Sick but they can’t provide everyone with personal generators unless medical needs. I would 100% ask your neighbours for help. They may have hot water bottles or back up battery packs can lend you. Let you charge your phone Order a take away etc plenty you can do.

I hope you get connected soon. I can imagine power cuts at this time of year are pretty miserable if you aren’t prepared for them.

For those saying register for priority use being sick as a one off isn’t the same and if everyone did it “just in case” the scheme wouldn’t be able to cope and those who need it to move around home, have medical equipment etc would miss out.

Are you both contracted to work from home? If not it's not fair that your work isnt providing you with a workplace and they shouldn't be docking your pay.
