Is this a scam?

We’ve had a letter today saying we have to attend a DWP telephone compliance interview and our benefits will be stopped if we don’t. Letter seems legit however we don’t claim any benefits (only DLA for my son but that’s a different department). Is this a scam that’s doing the rounds?

Phone the main number for dwp and get it from their own website and not from the letter and you can ask them

Exactly this

I’m not sitting on hold all day to chase it up. The number on the letter it says they will be phoning isn’t mine and I have no benefits that they can stop so I’m not too worried.

To ask if anyone was aware of a scam of this type doing the rounds.

It could be someone making a false benefits claim in your name, which has been investigated.

A family member had this last year.
Someone made a benefits claim in her name, got paid the ‘advance’ while the application was being processed and some benefits before they checked records and saw she was actually working.
They then sent out a letter similar to the one you received, she was later told she had to pay back the money as she had lied on the claim about being out of work and that she could be prosecuted for fraud.
She had a real drama proving it wasn’t her who put in the claim to begin with.

You need to call the DWP.

Does the letter have your name on it?

Search the number on the letter on WhatsApp and see who it comes up with.

I would check incase someone is using your info!

Oh that sounds worrying.

DWP do deal with DLA as well so it could be that.

Surely the letter would be in my sons name then? It’s paid to him not the parent.

I don't see how it would benefit a scammer to send out such a letter. Unless there is a high premium phone number you need to ring. I think you need to chase this up. It might be somebody claiming in your name.
