Hello, can you help me, I am a FTM so don't know if this is "normal". She turns 2 in the middle of December. Examples of things she says that I think are "advanced" are:

When asked "what would you like to drink? She'll say something like "hot milk in blue cup please" or "water in yellow bottle please"

She makes up songs although it's more like narrating what she is doing to a tune so like "Sophie* walking in living room .... I running away! .... Now I jump". (she uses her name and I interchangeably atm)

*Not her real name!

She can sing nursery rhymes (eg can do all of baa baa black sheep, it's raining it's pouring" and can also correctly finish some if you hum the intro.

I would guess her vocabulary is at around 200 words. maybe more.

am I being PFB about her?

Clever girl!

She sounds bright Smile enjoy her excellent chat!

jamsandwich1 · 21/10/2021 14:36

My son is the same! I also think he is very clever but I am probably being PFB too!

Mammyloveswine · 21/10/2021 14:37

She sounds fab but please don't put pressure on that she's "advanced" at such a young age!

PinkWaferBiscuit · 21/10/2021 14:39

Very advanced. It's recommended they have 50 words at 2 so she's quite ahead verbally which is fab.

She sounds like she’s at the top of the normal range. It’s nice to be proud but don’t get so invested in it that you’ll mind when her peers catch up. I was really proud of my daughter learning to ride a pedal bike without stabilisers at two but now she’s four all her friends can do it too and it’s completely irrelevant when she started.

Metallicalover · 21/10/2021 14:50

She sounds as though she is doing well!
My daughter was/is the same, very good talker! Me and my sister were at that age as well as my niece. You find yourself doing a double take when you think 'how on earth can you say that?!'
I have a few friends with children around the same age and it's fascinating how they all do things a different ages, some walked earlier end of normal and some later, their interests are all different such as jigsaws, scooters/balance bikes etc then by the time they get to a certain age they can all do it!
Next step for us is potty training and getting tips from each other and when each of them is ready xx

She's good but my daughter didn't say much other than the odd word until 27 months then came out with a huge array of long sentences and vocabulary almost immediately and at 28 years hasn't shut up since!

Rainallnight · 21/10/2021 14:53

My DD was like that. She’s five now and doesn’t show signs of being super academic or anything but she still has a very good vocab for her age, loves words, always asks what they mean, and is generally a little word sponge Grin

Her little brother on the other hand has a speech delay and had only a handful of words by that age. Confused

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 21/10/2021 14:56

Oh don't worry I don't put pressure on it or think too much about it as I know we all even out. And she can't for example ride a scooter where her other little friend can. I just wondered if I was being pfb mostly!!

@Musicaltheatremum GrinGrin Did we give birth to the same child?
Musicaltheatremum · 21/10/2021 15:39

@Fairyliz I wonder?! Her brother spoke according to the text books then reverted to 'grunt" mode as a teenager. Aged 26 he is coming back to life 🤣

Both of my DDs were like this before they were 2. There is apparently a gene for early language. They were very advanced compared with the toddlers in my antenatal group but by the time they were all around 3 and a half, there wasn't much in it. In fact one of those that was quite behind at 2 is now a doctor so it's not necessarily an indication if giftedness. My DDs are now 25 and 23 and have done very well at school and uni. Both are bright but I wouldn't call them gifted.

The best thing about early talkers is they can tell you what they want so less frustrated!

I love that age-enjoy every moment !
