What kind of job one day a week

Hi, I’m hoping I can get some ideas of any kind of job that I can do one day a week (on my husbands day off). It’s a weekday. Anything would be considered. Thanks

Cleaning?

Cafe, pub, supermarket? Not many places I presume...

Newuser82 · 21/10/2021 08:01

I know, it’s really difficult.

I think you would be better off looking for online work that you can do in your own time. Have a look at MSE on their boards.

Somewhere on here there is an 'earn £10 a day thread', well worth looking at.

Only downside, you have to continually work at it.

If you were already in a workplace, you might have been able to drop your hours if people want overtime but getting a day a week will be challenging. Employers want flexibility. Could you do some other evenings as well?

Pubs might be a good shout- but they’d probably want you for Saturday as well.

Otherwise- a lot of retail places hire on small contacts (6 hour contracts Confused) with the promise of overtime. Might be worth applying, then saying you’ve had a change in circumstances when you have your contact signed. It might not pan out well, but would he worth a punt.

Or set up your own cleaning business for that particular day. I think this is your best bet

Thanks. My husband works a few weekends a month and also isn’t often in before 8/9pm at night. We don’t have any family childcare. I am in the lucky position of not needing to work for financial reasons I’d just really like to do something for myself.

I think if you ‘want something for yourself’ then I would look at studying instead. Lots of unis offer remote options now.

Well then @Newuser82 if you don't need it for money I would just volunteer at a local charity shop or something

If you don’t need to work but want to do something, why not consider volunteering me day a week? Doesn’t necessarily have to be a charity shop but could be at a community centre, visiting service to the housebound/lonely, some hospitals even take people on in volunteer admin support roles. Speak to your local council to see if they have a volunteer bureau or database of local charities etc

Try places like churches, many employ someone for a few hours to do paperwork, added advantage is they will be more understanding about children! I worked 16 hours at one church and 4 hours a week at another

Agree on volunteering, guide/scout leader and they have roles that you can do in your own time if you can't commit to an evening a week. Community cafes? There's lots of sustainability projects kicking about right now. Food banks, loads of stuff!

Chillyjellytotty · 21/10/2021 08:50

Care work, they are so desperate I am sure some would take on for one day a week. Although it’s hard, physically and emotionally draining. So volunteering in something you have a passion for may be better for you.

If the children are school age, you could be a MDS at a local school. You'll have to work an hour or so every day, but at least you'll be around when the children are at home.
