Toddler vomiting bug

2 year old DD was sick twice this morning, she goes to nursery so I’m assuming it’s just a bug she’s picked up from there. She’s not had a sickness bug before (and actually wasn’t ever a sicky baby) but it was bound to happen sooner or later!

Is there any way I can avoid catching it? Is it inevitable? We’re obviously washing everything she threw up on on a high temp where we can, but she was sick on the sofa the first time and it doesn’t have removable covers so I’m a bit unsure of how to disinfect it? The second time was about half an hour later and we were armed with a bowl and a towel so that was easier to clean.

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and suffering badly with morning sickness right now so could really do without a vomiting bug on top.
Do you always catch the vomiting bugs young children get?
Also is there any way to make vomiting easier on a young child? As I say she’s never really been sick before, and she found it very upsetting. Obviously it’s not going to be pleasant, but does anything help them? I’m assuming there isn’t anything beyond just comforting them, but thought I’d ask in case there was.

Bump - but to ask a slightly different question too. DD hasn’t been sick since the two times this morning. Kept down lunch and dinner, but didn’t eat loads either time. She’s been running around, happily playing, no temp, doesn’t seem to be in any discomfort, normal energy levels etc. Basically apart from a slightly smaller appetite, if you didn’t know she’d thrown up this morning you’d think she was just fine.
Does this sound like a bug, can kids get bugs that are over this quickly? I know we’re not out of the woods, she could throw up again and obviously we’ll keep her off nursery tomorrow, but the fact she’s kept food down makes me hopeful that this seems fairly mild.

I’m still unsure about how to properly disinfect the sofa though!

Sounds like the same bug that’s just ravaged my child’s class at school. About a dozen kids off in the last week with it! Violent puking for a few hours and then right as rain.

Hope your DD is over the worst of it 😊

My DS is 27 months and vomited on Monday night. Had a blocked nose before that. We were in the car and luckily I was in the back with him and he threw up all in my hands, his clothes, his car seat 3 times.

He kept being sick that night. I think the last time he was sick was about 1am Tuesday morning.

He's got a snotty nose and a bit of a chesty cough now.

I did get it. Mine started early hours this morning. I feel fine now but my joints ached and I threw up until about lunchtime today. DP got the shits (tmi).

I don't really think you can avoid it unfortunately. With the sofa maybe try hot soapy water or you can buy disinfectant sprays.

My 3 year old has been like this today. Vomited 4 times. Between 7am-2pm. However in himself absolutely right as rain, chirpy and cheerful! Just not much appetite. However has now been coughing all evening. An odd one. Hopefully just a short illness bug doing it’s rounds 🤞🏼
