QB Test for ADHD

Does anyone have experience of the QB Test for ADHD? Just wondering what to expect really.

The back story is I think my son has ADHD. He is very impulsive - climbs out windows, attempts to exit moving vehicles, smashes screens, swears, is never still, doesn’t sleep, and more.

We had an assessment and despite the EP saying he displayed high levels of impulsivity we were told we told he did not have ADHD as there was no evidence of difficulty at school. All the reports from the school themselves said no issues whatsoever. He did have a school observation done by CAMHS which did pick up on behaviours but they said these behaviours could better be explained by ASD. We were then out on ASD pathway and have subsequently been given a diagnosis of ASD.

I disagreed with the no ADHD diagnosis for two reasons:

firstly if we roll with the idea he has no issues at school, my understanding of the diagnostic criteria is that symptoms need to be present across multiple settings. It doesn’t specify that school must be one of these settings and there is plenty of evidence across multiple settings.

Secondly, I dispute the fact there is no evidence at school! His teachers have told me he is easily distracted and doesn’t concentrate. So much so that he actually sits on a table by himself so as not to be distracted by the other children. I have many more examples.

Anyway, after his ASD assessment we were told he does have ASD but they also noted his impulsivity and said this could not be explained by a diagnosis of ADHD. At that point I asked for a second opinion on the ADHD. I was reluctantly told they would re-assess him but I needed to be aware it would be the same people assessing him who did the original assessment.

I’ve now been told that he still doesn’t meet the criteria for a diagnosis of ADHD because they is still no evidence of any difficulties at school. But they have suggested we go on the waiting list for a QB Test which they have said will put the issue to bed once and for all.

I don’t know how long the wait will be. The process started in reception and he is now Y4. I just want him to have the correct diagnosis so he can get the right support. His impulsivity is the main challenge we have and it’s so bad he is a danger to himself and others.

QB tests are used routinely as part of adhd assessments in the camhs where I work.

That’s interesting. I’ve never heard of it before and CAMHS told it was new. I guess just new to CAMHS in my area!

Ds had a QB test as part of his adhd assessment 3 years ago.

My little boy had a QB test last week. It's a computer test, pictures pop up and you have to click the correct answer, it's very quick. He wore something on his top half which monitored his movements (I think). I didn't take him, it was DH, but this is what he described. He said he left the room for most of it. It only took about 15-20 minutes.

My DS is 7 and was diagnosed with ASD at 3. He's also very impulsive and generally can't sit still/very bouncy. I suspected ADHD, but paediatrician was unsure if it was just how his autism presents, hence the QB test.

I don't know when we'll get the results but knowing the way things usually work in my area, it will take some time and a bit of chasing!

My DS (21) paid for a QB test with the ADHD foundation a couple of months ago. It provided him with a very detailed report and they have said the results are indicative that he has ADHD. He went through school with no problems other than very poor organisation skills and being easily distracted. The QB test should provide you with a good indication of whether you are correct.

Is it worth me paying for one of these tests to get it done faster? Would CAMHS then accept the result of it?
