Accessing childs medical records

AnotherName456 · 20/10/2021 10:06

I'm in the middle of renewing my DD's DLA and need to submit all different kinds of evidence that supports what I am writing.

I have several older reports from when she was a couple of years old but I have moved house since then and some I can't seem to find, I've also been told I need the most up to date reports.

I have contacted my GP asking if I could have access to her medical records or if they could print off the more recent reports but I have been told that's not possible. I need to put everything in writing and it will take 28 days to process and even then the request could be denied. Does anyone know if this is correct? She is only 6 years old so I just assumed that it wouldn't be a problem since she is under 13?

Sorry, I've got no idea whatsoever on this.

Could you contact PALS? I think usually records are held centrally.

I suggest you go over to www.carersuk.org/forum They are brilliant at helping carers - I know, I'm a carer and they've been so helpful

I've recently done a subject access request with my lg, it didn't take long to get the info needed. Its the only way unless you have online access to records

No records are not held centrally.

You need to be specific about the information you need and explain what you need it for.

You asked 'for a copy of medical records' and therefore the person you spoke is assuming you want to make a Subject Access Request for access to your child's full medical record. This is a legal process and they are correct that this can take up to 28 days and that certain information may not be provided.

What information do you actually need as evidence? Has DC been seen by a consultant and a report been prepared? If so, I would contact the consultant's medical secretary and explain that you need a copy of that report to include in your claim.

Be specific, go direct to the source of the information.

I stated I needed some reports, so speech and language reports, EP reports etc for renewal of my daughters DLA basically as evidence that what I'm saying is correct. I have some of the reports but need more recent ones as they need the most up to date. She was aware of what I was asking for. She was seen by a consultant but in 2017 so though it might be easier to go through the GP as it was quite a while ago now.
