New mum/baby hamper?

Hi

We're putting together a hamper for a new first time mum colleague at work.

Everyone is bringing in an item or two - usual new baby items. We're all mums, but most haven't had babies for several years!

We've got the usual suspects on the list - Muslins, nappies, wipes etc, but I wondered if anyone had anything they found particularly useful in the early days? For mum too?

Thanks!

Rescue remedy.
Take away voucher.
New comfy PJs.

Lidded insulated travel mug for mum!

Chocolate, lots of it but nut free as it turned out my last baby was upset by the nut protein in my milk

MrsRobbieHart · 19/10/2021 18:22

Metanium
Dummies

CocaColaTruck1 · 19/10/2021 18:23

Pyjamas for mum
Just eat voucher
Coffee sachets (not having to think about what to put in the cup 😂)
Nappy bags
Ramer sponge

Hayup · 19/10/2021 18:40

The flip side to a thermal coffee cup - a chilly bottle.

An Audible subscription is a great idea.

A warm wrap scarf for Mum - I had one that was fabulous. It was (obviously) a scarf for me, an emergency blanket for DD and came in very handy for feeding at night, even DH used it at night.

Decent hand cream, lip balm. If you know where she gets her hair cut, a voucher for a wash and blow dry.

Warm socks.

Mine is a bit boring but every mum I’ve given to has been grateful
I buy calpol, nurofen, calpol plug in, baby saline spray, snot sucker for baby then a couple of luxury bath bits for mum. I figure that enough people buy baby clothes and as a new mum I wanted to pick a lot of baby clothes for my kids!

Oh some brilliant ideas! Thanks all!

I had a baby 9 weeks ago and things we have found very useful are -

Infacol
Reusable cotton pads for washing face
Rubber duck bath thermometer
A water bottle with straw

Someone also gave me some bath oils which were wonderful!

InnPain · 19/10/2021 22:08

Some tea bags and nice biscuits/chocolate for mum. I feel like mums sometimes get forgotten about and mostly people buy things for the new baby

Onelongnight · 19/10/2021 22:21

Lavender essential oil to mix with milk for soothing baths post birth
Flapjack great for energy hit and oats are good for breastfeeding.

Alfxn · 19/10/2021 22:26

Definitely a really good really moisturising hand cream. The skin on my hands has been so sore with all the hand washing that comes with a new baby and I'm finding the loccitane shea one good - i nearly have one in each room of the house at this stage!

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 19/10/2021 22:30

An extra long charger lead for my phone.

A big water bottle if breastfeeding. Also great in hospital as those jugs and silly cups are stupid for people holding a baby.

White noise machine.

Food of any description.

Something for the baby etta loves or priya and peanut have great sensory items. The etta loves sensory strip was amazing mesmerised DD for long enough for me to eat dinner.

  1. Rescue remedy without a doubt
  2. A massive bar of chocolate
  3. A bottle of witch hazel for sore vag or any incision. I poured it in my maternity pads (cooled from the fridge) and it was absolute bliss on my episiotomy.
  4. Wine

I usually do a hamper of all the yummy food that's usually avoided during pregnancy - so good cheeses, pate, meat etc with some nice crackers and olives/antipasto type stuff. And a bottle of wine if she drinks it. It's a bit of luxury (especially after avoiding those foods) and makes for an easy, no-cook dinner one evening.

Then I add one small baby thing - but avoid teddies, muslins, wraps, blankets, newborn size clothes etc as I got sooooo many of those. So sometimes a book, or an outfit in 6-12 months or bigger.

I love the food idea!
