Night cough, enlarged adenoids - anything I can do?

One of my twins had a couple of sleep studies last year due to snoring - they found he does have mild sleep apnoea and suspected enlarged adenoids but as it was mild there was no plan to remove them.

He also always gets a night cough around this time of year through to spring and it’s particularly bad - horrible barking cough at night and then fine in the day. No wheezing or anything to indicate asthma, but he does have allergies and eczema.

Is there anything at all I can ask the GP to do, or ask for him to go back to ENT? I would rather avoid surgery if possible and medications would be tricky as he’s autistic and non verbal, but it’s really affecting his sleep and sounds so painful.

They did try us on a steroid nasal spray after the first sleep study but can’t remember if that helped the coughing or not now!

Not a doctor, not an expert, but barking cough at night and fine by day could be acid reflux.

You don't need a wheeze to be asthmatic, cough variant asthma is now recognised in its own right as a type of asthma.

Sorry I have just found this thread, hoping OP is still around!

We have had the same with our 2.5yo DD - a night cough each winter lasting months. Sometimes she coughs so much she vomits, lots of broken sleep, horrible. How are you holding up?

I didn’t know adenoids could affect it, I might ask GP to take a look now. She’s been diagnosed with post viral wheeze & they’ve said not to be surprised if she is asthmatic within a couple of years. We have the blue inhaler - have they given you one?
